They're like drugs that make you hallucinogenic or cuckoo for cocoa puffs. xD They are ordinary mushrooms with certain properties. The Netherlands are banning them. Tourists liked to go there for their light policy on drugs, like smoking weed (cannabis). This ban was due to a rise in incidents over these mushrooms. In March some girl jumped from a bridge after eating these mushrooms.

Magic mushrooms are mushrooms that grow in the wild. They produce similar hallucinogenic-type effects to LSD when you eat them. There are two main types and they’re quite different. The most common form is a species called psilocybe semilanceata or ‘liberty cap’, while the other more potent variety is amanita muscaria or ‘fly agaric’. There are deadly poisonous species of amanitas, so if you don't know what you're doing, it’s wise not to take them.
The effects for both mushrooms can take between 30 minutes to two hours to happen. The strongest part of the trip takes 4-10 hours and the after-effects usually last a further 2-6 hours. The more you take, the longer your trip could last. Both mushrooms can make you feel confident, relaxed and in good spirits. They can distort colour, sound and objects. One effect can be that your senses get mixed up so that, for example, you think you can hear colours and you can see sounds.
They can also speed up and slow down your sense of time and movement. You may feel like you're dreaming when you're awake. You can feel more emotionally sensitive. Some people become creative and feel enlightened.

They used to be very easy to get hold of. Stalls in Camden Town market used to sell them. But fun-loving Labour changed the law -
The new Drugs Act 2005 has changed the law so that now both fresh and prepared (e.g. dried or stewed) magic mushrooms that contain psilocin or psilocybin are classified as Class A drugs. Possession can get you up to seven years in jail and/or an unlimited fine. Supplying someone else, including your friends, with magic mushrooms can get you life imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

The Dutch government has announced to "ban" Magic Mushrooms, although it is not clear when and how they are going to do it, if at all. It is also not clear if the Mushrooms are illegal, or if a ban on them is illegal.
The government announced this as a result of some high profile incidents involving Magic Mushrooms (all in Amsterdam).
- March 24 2007 a 17-year old French tourist (the one dj referred to) died when she jumped off a viaduct. It was rumoured that she was on a trip, but there was no authopsy and no proof.
- June 23 2007 a man completely wrecked the top floor of a hotel after consuming beer, spacecake and six mushrooms.
- July 14 2007 a 28 year old Frenchman killed and mutilated his dog and was found naked in his van. He declared he wanted to release the spirit of his dog and was under the influence of mushrooms and marijuana.
Almost all incidents involve tourists, who, having little time and little knowledge, comsume too much and everything at once.

Forgot to add: The man who killed his dog was later found to be not under the influence of any drug, he was just psychotic.
