Who was the only deceased jockey to win a horse race?

    Question #95520. Asked by BRY2K. (May 10 08 4:05 AM)

Well, there's Jockey Ralph Neves who died and was revived.

One source states: He didn't win any of his races that day, though at the end of the meet he took enough seconds to win the title.

The other source states: He insisted that he didn't feel dead, but the stewards still refused to let him compete again that day. The following day, though, he rode five winners and claimed the meet's top prize--a $500 watch donated by Bing Crosby.

    He the one???

    Hi zbeckabee,

    Interesting story, thanks for that!

Not the name that I had in mind, to be honest. I was actually referencing an athlete who was victim of the sweet kiss of death in the 1920's.

    (Hint?)

Doesn't get any easier than that!

Frank Hayes was a jockey who in 1923 suffered a fatal heart attack in the midst of a race Belmont Park in New York. His horse, Sweet Kiss, finished and won the race with his lifeless body still atop, making him the first, and thus far only, jockey to win a race while dead.
