Johnny Hallyday (born Jean-Philippe Smet on June 15, 1943 in Paris) is a French singer and actor. An icon in the French-speaking world since the beginning of his career, some consider him the French equivalent of Elvis Presley.

He has had a 45-year career in music and is one of France's biggest stars. He has completed 400 tours, had 18 platinum albums, performed in front of 15 million people, and sold 100 million records. Today Hallyday is still seen as a top stage performer, giving first class shows in crowded stadiums. Hallyday announced his retirement from performing on 3 December 2007 at the age of 64.

Ex-soldier crowned Europe's King of Rock ‘n’ Roll

London, Jan 13, 2008 (ANI): A former soldier has earned the title of Europe’s King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Rob Kingsley, who served in The Royal Scots, won the title of the continent’s top Elvis impressionist triumphing over thousands of challengers at the prestigious Walk a Golden Mile in My Shoes contest in Blackpool.

“It’s a dream come true. My life has been a whirlwind since I won," the Daily Record quoted him as saying. “They judge you on vocals, how you look and your mannerisms. I’ve been told I have the whole package,” he added.

Kingsley walked away with a trophy, along with 1200 pounds in cash and a cruise. He has also been signed by music giant Sony BMG for promoting Elvis.
