    What is the connection between soda water and sodium?

    		In the UK Soda Water is nearly always made with Sodium Bicarbonate.

    Club soda may be identical to plain carbonated water or it may contain a small amount of table salt, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulfate, or disodium phosphate, depending on the bottler.

    I have a container which originally held 500 grams of what the label claims to be "finest table salt" - pretty much pure sodium chloride. Yet, out of every 100 grams in the container, only 39 grams are sodium. Since a molecule of table salt is made up of an equal number of sodium and chlorine atoms, this leads me to believe that chlorine is a much heavier element than sodium. Is that really true?
