Could the United States win a nuclear war against Russia?

Well Russia has more than the US. In Russia, 5830 out of 16000 are active. While in US, 4075 out of 5535 are active. But only a couple hundred nuclear bombs or less are needed to destroy a country. And the radiation would kill everyone. So yea its pretty much even ground, cause you can have as many as you need but only a few are needed for destruction.

After the USA installs their missile defence shield in Eastern Europe (ostensibly to counter rogue states), a pre-emptive nuclear strike can be launched in the knowledge that any remaining Russian missiles can be shot down.
