    To follow the high note question, which song has the lowest note?

    		J.S. Bach writes a low C (two octaves below middle c) in his cantata "Aus der Tiefe, ruff ich Herr zu Dir" ("From the depths I call to You O Lord"). Mahler writes a low Bb in the finale of his second symphony. Both of these pieces have been sung by a good number of choirs over the years.

    		There is a school of Russian bass singers who can sing certain liturgial songs in registers that most men can hardly imagine - well over two octaves below middle c for the most part.
