I have been told if a break in the leg is not in a certain place it will be quite possible to, however painful, and certainly doesn't mean it's not broken if you can. The majority would stop you but not all. I think I also came across it on an NHS article but the general page is here http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=166§ionId=10

One of the symptoms of a broken ankle is typically the inability to walk—however, it is possible to walk with less severe breaks, so never rely on walking as a test of whether a bone has been fractured.
It’s entirely possible to walk on a foot or ankle with a broken bone. It depends on your threshold for pain, as well as the severity of the injury. But it’s not a smart idea. Walking with a broken bone can cause further damage.
How likely do you think each of these events is - not possible, possible (but not likely to occur), probable (more likely than not to occur) or certain?
