The White House was certainly black after British troops set fire to it during the war of 1812. It was painted white afterwards.

The only time the White House was black was due to the fire of 1814 which happened during the war of 1812 by the British in retaliation for burning upper Canada's Parliament Buildings. Soon after this it was rebuilt and painted white again. This is the only time it was ever black.
