Malta.
It is from the Phoenician MLT meaning "refuge". The term may have been kept long in currency by the existence of the Greek and Latin word melitta or "honey", the name of the island in classical times, and also the major export from the island during those centuries.
Btw, in Hebrew, the root MLT is used for the act of escaping rather than the act of seeking or finding refuge. It is also used for the act of giving birth in animals.
