Some of the most gifted pupils of this famous teacher and violinist died very young and tragically: Plane crash, brain surgery and one by suicide. Who was the teacher and who were those unfortunate pupils?

    Question #96571. Asked by Cem1942. (Jun 12 08 8:44 AM)

I BELIEVE that the famous violinst/teacher was Carl Flesch?

    His tragic pupils included:

Josef Hassid who was lobotimised and died in 1950.

Ginette Neveu, "Ginette Neveu gave her last concert on October 20, 1949. A week later, on October 27, she and her brother boarded an Air France flight en route to another series of concert engagements. All 48 passengers on board the flight, including the famous French boxing champion Marcel Cerdan, died when the plane flew into a mountain after two failed attempts to make a landing at the São Miguel Island airport in the Azores. It is said that Ginette Neveu's body was found still clutching her Stradivarius in her arms."

    and

Christian Ferras who committed suicide on September 14, 1982.

Are I on the right track, Cem1942?

Correct! In Argentina, guys like Flesch are called
"semáforos", that's fellows who you have to avoid at
any cost because they bring very bad luck.

I suppose in Argentina "semaforo" literally means "traffic light" but is often understood as "redlight"? That's the case in Colombia, but I've never heard a person called that. Interesting.
