2001 -- The bald eagle is afforded protection under three federal statutes. The Eagle Protection Act, The Endangered Species Act of 1973, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Killing or wounding an eagle is a violation of all three acts.

NOTE: Currently, the bald eagle is protected by only two federal statutes: On June 28, 2007 the Interior Department took the American bald eagle off the Endangered Species List. The bald eagle will still be protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
