    What is the official name for the American Civil War?

    		There are a lot. I dont think there is one official name. It is variously known as: The Civil War, the American Civil War, the War between the States, the Second American Revolution, etc. You can choose to call it whatever you want.

    		According to the Dept. of War, the official records refer to it as "The War of the Rebellion"

    Here's the U.S. Govt. description.

    "Officially titled, The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, the Official Records are compiled in 127 volumes, plus a General Index and accompanying Atlas."

    		When I lived in Florida I heard it referred to as The War of Northern Aggression.
