Can anyone explain how the periodic table works? How is it possible that the vertical groups correspond almost exactly to the increasing atomic mass of the elements? For instance, the alkali metals (group 1), alkaline earth metals (group 2) and noble gases (group 8) all have very different properties, yet somehow, if they were all arranged in order by their atomic masses, you would find that they could be arranged in a clear pattern of Group 1, Group 2, Group 8, Group 1, Group 2, Group 8, and so on. Is it just coincidence, or is there a scientific explanation for this?

What "newly-discovered" but electron-less and therefore inert element includes: 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, for an atomic mass of 311, all held together by forces called "morons"? And what is the half-life of this exasperating element?

There is at least one scenario where a star with an initial mass lower than Chandrasekhar's Mass still undergoes a supernova. Can you describe it?
