How is a song whose opening lyrics are "This is a public service announcement, with guitars!" related to a micronation whose motto is "We Seceded Where Others Failed"?

    Question #97319. Asked by gentlegiant17. (Jul 07 08 10:50 AM)

I suspect that you are looking for a more finite linkage, but here is a start!

The micronation in question is the Conch Republic.

"Know Your Rights" is a song by The Clash it begins with the words “This is a public service announcement...with guitars!” .

I can detect at least one similarity upon a cursory reading of both the song's lyrics and the history of the renegade micronation- humiliation.

The song lyrics include the lines:

    And number 2
You have the right to food money
    Providing of course you
    Dont mind a little
    Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
    Rehabilitation

The history of the Republic also makes note of each and every person & vehicle entering or leaving the key’s would be subject to military search and where required to show proof that they where American citizens.

The relation is in fact the date APRIL 23, 1982.

The Conch Republic was established by secession of the Florida Keys from the United States of America, on April 23rd, 1982 in response to a United States Border Patrol Blockade setup on highway U.S.1 at Florida City just to the north of the Florida Keys.

Know Your Rights" is a song by The Clash released as a single that was eventually released on their penultimate album, Combat Rock. It was released on April 23rd, 1982.
