From the old days is still existing a variation of spoken Danish, called gøtudanskt. Even though, this "charming accent" (as a Danish author mentioned), is more and more replaced by the school Danish (realm Danish rigsdansk) and Danish today considered as a pure foreign language, it is still colouring the Faroese's pronounciation of Danish, and makes it easier to understand for non-Danes.

Gøtudanskt/Dano-Faroese is highly proficient (L2) Danish spoken mainly as the written Danish standard by Faroe Islanders with Faroese interference at all level of language processing. It is characteristic for the elder generation. The younger generation has a proper Danish pronunciation.’
