What independent country is the least often mentioned in international media?

Question #97912. Asked by author. (Jul 24 08 7:53 PM)

An interesting question, and my vote goes to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Methodology: going to http://news.google.com/ and search the news of the past month for the most obscure nations.
It comes to no surprise that the list is topped by Caribbean and Pacific island nations, followed by little-known African countries.
Here are the results (the number is the number of hits):

    Caribbean:
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 45
    Saint Lucia 71
    Saint Kitts and Nevis 180

    Pacific:
    Kiribati 258
    Marshall Islands 344
    Micronesia 348
    Tuvalu 411
    Nauru 529
    Vanuatu 629

    Africa:
    Equatorial Guinea 467
    The Gambia 549
    Comoros 666
    Cape Verde 738
    Central African Republic 918
    Sao Tome and Principe 922
    Guinea-Bissau 1,039
    Swaziland 1,144

    For comparison:
    Least often mentioned Asian countries:
    Turkmenistan 1,411
    Timor Leste 1,514
    Least often mentioned Southamerican country:
    Suriname 1,437
    Least often mentioned European countries:
Andorra and San Marino, both about 2,000
