    Today, two sluggers with over 500 home runs, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Manny Ramirez, got traded before the trade deadline. When was the last time, if ever, that somebody with 500 or more home runs got traded during the regular season?

    First, Frank Thomas was given his outright release in April of this year after a tough start to the season, and then signed with Oakland four days later. Although that wasn't a trade, it was an in-season move.

    Eddie Murray was also released during a season (1997) with 504 HRs and then picked up:

    But the last person who had already hit 500 home runs to be traded in-season appears to have been Frank Robinson, who was traded by the Angels to the Indians on September 12, 1974 with 572 HRs.
