What was the working title of the novel that Nathaniel Hawthorne’s son-in-law never got to print involving the father of “Dash” and “Dot”?

    Question #98166. Asked by BRY2K. (Aug 01 08 4:08 AM)

Mary and Thomas Edison's first child was Marion Estelle, born on February 18, 1872. As a child, her nickname was "Dot," a reference to the Morse code used to send messages on telegraphs.

Thomas Alva, Junior, was born on January 10, 1876. Since his sister Marion was nicknamed "Dot," he was nicknamed "Dash."

The SF novel which George Parsons Lathrop (Hawthorne's son-in-law) collaborated on, had the working title of PROGRESS -- Involving Edison's laboratory notes. The book was abandoned because Edison gave away the details of his inventions to the press instead of saving them for Science Fiction.
