What is the spice used in the common onion relish found in Israeli falafel stands?

I could be wrong on both counts, but I submit that the spice is either ztter or taklia.

Zaatar is a blend of seasonings that is very popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. It consists of thyme, sumac, and sesame seeds and is used to flavor various types of food including meats and vegetables. Zaatar is also spelled zahtar, zartar, and zaartar.

    Good enough, Brian.

Usually the sumac will be the standalone spice in the onion relish referred to in my question. I just ate one today then i thought it could be a nice AskFT serving.

Za'atar is indeed the name of a spice blend. In Israel the word "Za'atar" is more foten used to refer to the blend's major component, the Origanum syriacum.
