I still record TV shows on a VCR, but I'm hearing that VHS tapes are not going to be produced after the first of next year. Is it true that VHS tapes are being discontinued by the start of 2009?

I'm not finding anything official or definite, BUT, it appears that they are being phased out -- The phasing out process began with the VHS MOVIES and many of the blank VHS tape manufactures have discontinued their VCR products. However, you can still purchase blank VHS tapes.

"Some time ago, all of the video manufacturers announced they would produce no more VCR tapes."
"In 2003 VHS tapes started being phased out and started being fully replaced by DVD videos. Many stores today no longer sell VHS movies and shows, only DVDs."
