    The British zebra crossing with its Belisha Beacons is still around. The crossing came in about 1950. But the Beacon was introduced in 1934. What for?

    		They were introduced by the then Minister of Transport, Leslie Hore-Belisha, to give a warning of an approaching pedestrian crossing. Pedestrian crossings were in use before the term 'zebra crossings' was introduced.
