    Is this the first Olympic games where the athletes have the country name on their shirts?

    I'm trying to find something definite about when it started, but the pickings are scarce.

    Here's a photo from the 2004 olympics -- USA is written as big as you please.

    Interesting as that was basketball- up till now I've always struggled to follow most runners as besides Australia's yellow and green most of the others have many similar besides the smaller countries which are impossible to guess.
    This time round every runner has the country on their shirts and am guessing it's the first time but wonder what finally made them do it.
