What is the only meat that is not condemned by culture or religion?

There isn't one: In Jainism, vegetarianism is mandatory for everyone, in Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism it is advocated by some influential scriptures and religious authorities.

Tofu and Quorn are two of the ways vegetarians can enjoy meat dishes, and adherents of various religions can enjoy the treats that their god and/or priests forbid them to eat. Tofu is extracted deviously from soy beans, and Quorn (probably registered trade mark there, I think) is a textured mycoprotein (meaning it's grown by little fungi things - actually a sort of soil mould). Both are vegetable (but Quorn uses chicken egg albumen to stick it together, and need considerable flavouring to make them worth eating. Both can be disguised as meat, but this is frowned on by some of the priests (including those of strict vegetarianism) as they regard this as still breaking the rules.

Up to looking this up, I thought Quorn was German for some reason. It's British. Well, well.

I don't think there's a single religion of culture that prohibits vegetable-based food. The upper-class in England in the 18th C and the Inuit before they gained civilisation (so-called) came pretty close to being vegetable free, but didn't actually ban them. There might be a small sect somewhere that has misunderstood the Atkins diet, though....

So, am I correct in assuming that we still don't have a meat that is not condemned by culture or religion?

Not until someone gets rid of all the Jains. 'Culture' presents problems. If it means a whole national society or a distinct group like gypsies, not so bad. If it refers to groups like New Age as cultures, then the Vegans condemn all meat eating. I don't know of any nation that has tried to enforce vegetarianism. And even the imitation meats are condemned by some groups. As to the Jains, they even avoid some vegetables - including potatoes, garlic and onions - and don't run farms themselves in case they kill worms while ploughing. (I'll go along with the avoiding of onions...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism

    Lamb.

I just saw that little factoid on Good Eats (Food Network)not 5 minutes ago.
"Unlike beef and pork, no culture or religion bans the consumption of lamb"

Mind you, they don't give a reference for that statement. I guess this means that if a relgion allows the eating of meat in general, none of them ban lamb.

I heard about a movie where in the final scene a man is condemned to hang near a river, but the rope breaks and he is swept downriver to freedom. We see him eventually run to his house and into the arms of his wife. In the last shot, however, we realize that this was just the condemned man's dream, as we see him hanging from the gallows. Does anyone know the title of this movie?
