Who are the ten women to win Oscars for portraying prostitutes?

Question #99026. Asked by BFactor. (Aug 30 08 8:41 AM)

    BRY2K

On film, hookers are often portrayed glamorously. Jane Fonda and Kim Basinger won Academy Awards for portraying prostitutes, and there have been no fewer than 16 Oscar nominations for actresses playing hookers, including Elisabeth Shue in “Leaving Los Vegas,” Sharon Stone in “Casino” and Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman.”

The truth, like Charlize Theron’s Oscar-winning turn as real-life serial killer/prostitute Aileen Wuornos in “Monster,” is far less attractive.

    Among the Oscar winners:

1995 Mira Sorvino, for her role in Mighty Aphrodite. Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
    She won.

1997 Kim Basinger, for her role in L.A. Confidential. Best Actress in a Supporting
    Role. She won.

2003 Charlize Theron, for her role in Monster. Best Actress in a Leading role. She won.

Helen Hayes won the award for "The Sin of Madelon Claudet".

Academy Awards went to Donna Reed in "From Here to Eternity," Jo van Fleet in "East of Eden," Susan Hayward in "I Want to Live," Elizabeth Taylor in "Butterfield 8" and Jane Fonda in "Klute." All played hookers or, because of the Hollywood production code, loose women.

    I lost count......
