Why did the Umayyad caliphate change its capital from Damascus to Córdoba?

Basically because the Umayyads were overthrown by the Abassids in the 8th century, and the heir, Abd-al-Rahman I, after some years of exile, ended up in al-Andalus (the Iberian Peninsula) and established his capital at Cordoba.
