"No montes un ____ !" said Precocious Pete's fussy baby brother's nanny. Pete thinks of the large painting of the dancer at the end of the Cloister in the museum with the stolen rare seascape Rembrandt. What is the large painting called and what does it mean in the context of the painting?

The painting, hanging in the Spanish Cloister of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, is "El Jaleo," by John Singer Sargent.

The nanny is telling the Pete's little brother "No montes un JALEO," meaning "Don't raise a row," or "Don't pitch a fit," or "Don't make a fuss."

"Jaleo" as the painting's title refers to "the spontaneous clapping and shouting that comes like an "Olay!" at the apex of a performance," as noted in the above reference.

Another meaning of "jaleo" is "racket, row, hassle."

    Yes !

" El Jaleo " by Singer Sargent is in the little jewel of a museum, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
Just as an aside, a regret I have is not seeing the only seascape Rembrandt before it was stolen. Hope it is returned safely someday, along with the other stolen items.
