Edith Cresson is the first female Prime Minister in the history of France. Cresson is French for watercress, and also a color.

    Excellent, Jens !

And good work too Nick, but I was looking for " cresson ".
This peppery herb which is great on salads and sandwiches also refers to the first and so far the only female French Prime Minister. Finally, the yellow green color which is what cresson is, falls right in the middle of the visible light spectrum ( which by the way, is why it is highly visible to the human eye - it is directly in the middle of the frequencies of visible light ). The color cresson can also be called chartreuse.

The watercress is Nasturtium officinale http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=NAOF
The orange things are Tropaeolum, but popularly called nasturtiums. There is no relationship between the two genera.

Both the white flowered watercress and the orange flowered Tropaeolum are edible, just to confuse the issue.

    I go with Cresson.....
