From 1996-1998 In 1996 the coalition was formed by six parties:
the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS, democratic-socialist);
the Italian People's Party (PPI, Christian-democratic);
Italian Renewal (RI, social-liberal);
the Federation of the Greens (green);
the Italian Socialists (SI, social-democratic);
Democratic Union (UD, social-liberal);
From 1998-2004 it was these six:
the Democrats of the Left (DS, social-democratic);
Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy (DL, progressive-centrist, born by the merger of PPI, The Democrats and RI);
the Party of Italian Communists (PdCI, communist);
the Italian Democratic Socialists (SDI, social-democratic)
the Federation of the Greens (green);
the Democratic Union for Europe (UDEUR).
