The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

LOTRSonic, what did you like so much about 'Final Fantasy 8'?

LOTRSonic Gosh, leteraly everything. The story, the characters, the enviorment. It was one of the first games that literally plunged me into this world. I thought that it was beautifully done. The gameplay was so involved and very engaging. Nothing can compare to it in my opinion. Did you not like it?

LOTRSonic That's supposed to say literally. Sorry. There's no spell check. Haha!

Frankly I thought 'Final Fantasy 8' was the worst one in the series, but that's just my humble opinion. As a 'Final Fantasy', it deviated too much from the other games. In my opinion, 9 and 10 got the series back on track. Storywise it seemed inferior to the other games. The characters in 8 had very little depth whereas in 6 and 7 I felt more involved with the characters. The ending as I remember it really failed to impress me. As far as gameplay goes, I felt very limited as far as the commands were concerned: three (plus Attack) for each character really wasn't enough considering all you had to do. It had some really great moments, don't get me wrong. The fight against Edea in Deling was really good. However, moments like that were just way too few and far between.

Frankdavid-I noticed you left out 'Final Fantasy' 7 and 9, did you not like those games? By the way, you listed some very good titles: 'Chrono Trigger' and 'Final Fantasy 6' are my all time favorites, with 'Final Fantasy 4' not too far behind.

frankdavid Diamondlance, I didn't mention Final Fantasy 9 only because I'm in the beginning of the game. As for Final Fantasy 7 I never past the first Cd, I don't have it yet. I heard that FF7 is one of the best of the series and someday I'll buy it. By the way you can call me Frank.

LOTRSonic FF8 was definitley a hit or miss. Either you loved it or you hated it. There really was no in between. I absolutley loved it though. It was just my type of game. Or at least one of my types of games.

Yes, perhaps 8 just wasn't my type of game. Hmm, but it's not really that I hated the game, it just didn't measure up to the other 'Final Fantasy' games that I hold in such high regard. By general RPG standards, it was a decent game. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did, though. Truly one of the marks of a great RPG is the ability of the game to draw the player into its world. Since 'Final Fantasy 8' was able to do that for you, it's no wonder it made number 2 on your list. Hey, a top ten list; that's not a bad idea. It's difficult to compare games of different genres, so I'll just work with my favorite genre: RPGs.

10. "Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits" (PS2)
9. "Final Fantasy 4" (SNES)
8. "Final Fantasy 7" (PS1)
7. "Earthbound" (SNES)
6. "Golden Sun 1 & 2" (GBA)
5. "Final Fantasy 10" (PS2)
4. "Secret of Mana" (SNES)
3. "Illusion of Gaia" (SNES)
2. "Final Fantasy 6" (SNES)
1. "Chrono Trigger" (SNES)

Wow, this took more time than I thought. After thinking about my choices, I think this is as accurate as I'll get. I wouldn't be surprised if I come back later and shake my head in realizing that I missed a title, but I guess if it didn't come to mind now, it's probably not that much of a favorite anyway.

LOTRSonic I know what you mean. Top ten lists are really hard to put together. Mine has almost stayed the same but I recentley fell in love with Kingdom Hearts. That is truly the perfect game for me. It's RPG but with real time. Plus it's Disney and Final Fantasy. I'm a HUGE Disney fan and Goofy is my hero, plus it has all of my favorite FF characters (Selphie and Squall). It's amazing.
