Thanks Lesley, I'd been dropping hints a couple of years when I occasionally see this woman and she finally realised I was being serious last time and seemed quite pleased. I'm not expecting something serious for a number of reasons, but then again (god forbid she reads this, it's like writing down PIN numbers blogging) I wasn't really planning it (although it wouldn't be ruled out as a possibility). Plus it shows me what an easy time I have with Grace. Some pets can always be relied on not to bite and others can be very entertaining and have your finger off. Of course in a perfect world (and one when you can go back 20 years each time you fail to beat the system at 50 or so and have another go until you do) you would have both entertaining and peaceful, but of the two peaceful tends to win, especially at over 50.
Otherwise despite having absolutely nothing required to do besides going to the gym today I was sent a message to try the AVG Tuneup which gives a single computer fix to see if you want to keep it. The laptop has been upgraded and worked perfectly, and gave it a run as it was the first time I'd ever been given such an offer, and besides it slowing down since also picked up Giant Advertising extension which covers the explorer with ads. I may have got it from a new Firefox skin or another of the updates I did today, but AVG didn't get rid of it, and ended up having to get Spybot which I use on the PC and although it didn't appear to find it is now jammed removing the final issue it found. I disabled the app in the meantime, it went from Chrome but seems to be hanging about on Firefox for now, but as it's Vista I've no idea how to hack the program files directly as they're all somewhere different from before. I even have the internal URL I typed in downloads/etc but wouldn't open it, and can't yet find the route in the usual way through programs.
The as I was in the loo before leaving the gym the phone went in my locker, I answered it, returned to the loo (as you would) and went back home. Then there was no phone, and either left it in the loo or it fell out of my jacket as I didn't zip the pocket up. The gym closed before I knew, and as well as the phone it has the credit and a memory card, plus the photos I took of people in the directory and all my notes. So without a thing to keep me busy first the computer needed attention, which is well within my scope, and then my phone disappeared and there's absolutely nothing I can do till tomorrow. That's the wind of chaos which is part of the uncalled for frequencies we become caught in, partly we are told as part of our karma and partly as we haven't learned to switch them at will like an adept. Either way I can do without it, it won't cost a bomb to replace the phone but the work on it is not replaceable and don't want someone mopping up the large amount of credit, most as compensation for the last errors they made with my account. But I can't cancel it until I know it's gone or I won't be able to use it for a few days if I do find it tomorrow so have gambled as the gym closed as I left and no one can get in till tomorrow and pinch it anyway.
It is now the point I look to the following week, as I did so much last week there will be no guilt if I don't go anywhere special, but other than seeing all the different women will just have to see what happens. But seeing women as friends is like going to a restaurant with someone and watching everyone else eat, it really doesn't actually fulfil much of a function besides the conversation. Or buying a fancy car with leather seats and a fridge but never driving it. Total waste... |

| The chaos was a short wave and turns out the gym instructor chased me in the car park as he found my phone in the locker, and we went back today and picked it up. I deleted the rogue program and everything seems fine now, and can restore if it still jams from what the alterations may have done. I'm now saving my energy for a sign out in the middle of Essex sooner or later, which is the only trip worth doing before the clocks go forward, and otherwise will just get on with it and see what happens. |

| I've just looked and found it's half a mile down a footpath. That's an added bonus... No desperate hurry but there's really nowhere else left to go till the end of March and it would get it out of the way. |

I have a small lesson to learn here, just because there's a demanding but not urgent job to do when I'm free doesn't mean I ought to feel guilty not doing it. I also need the energy to get to Essex, and oddly when I was out today heard on the radio a road on the way was closed and the main road was backed up for miles- had I attempted it would probably have reached Gants Hill and had to give up anyway. The only tiny element is being an old sign is not guaranteed to survive, but this is tucked away on a path so far less likely than if on a road.
Instead the sunny weather got me to Hampstead Heath with my video camera, as when I've got nowhere new to go locally with the camera I can make a film, and also got some nice photos as well. It's misbehaving at the moment, and cut the film in two parts, and if it won't work would need splicing and I don't have the software to do it. Luckily it seems to have worked, and for some reason split the film into two files, which it's never done before. And I got some exercise. Carole didn't come today (damn good thing as she's coming again anyway on Saturday to pay me back for the train fare and twice in a week would be like having a job) so was free, and have plenty of boring jobs to do indoors regardless but prefer to go out anywhere if it's dry before I come back and do any or none of them. I hope I'll keep being inspired as if I don't go to Essex I'd like other things to do which won't be wasting the time. |

I have decided pointless trips for photos before the clocks go forward are a waste of time and petrol, and at least will get more jobs done round here instead if I wait. It's only the road signs which need getting, and the two remaining trips are so demanding I'll need the right conditions or won't manage it. So I made another video in the local parks today as it was sunny again and am now working my way through various jobs which have been hanging around like a bad smell.
Part two of the same mission is looking for more signs where I can get to them, and till the end of next month when I'll have the freedom to go wherever I like again and take photos will let them direct any longer trips I make. |

For the second time this week I had to get ready for Carole and she didn't come. As she owes me for the train fare there's a business aspect to consider, but as she can post it I was still quite relieved when she couldn't make it today either. I had absolutely nothing to do except take a dying plant back to the nursery (the expert won't be there till Saturday so left my number) and then returned and got cracking on the housework. My desk is 3/4 clear now, photos have been checked, scanned and put away after someone asked if I had any more having seen herself in one outside my house from about 1972, phone calls made (Grace is busy all next week, go figure), and I've now at least got something to report. I did realise there's no point going anywhere just for new photo places till I can do the longest runs unless it's a road sign, so will just have to sit tight unless I get the energy to get the ones I need in Cuckfield.
At least the list of jobs is shrinking now, I needed nowhere else to go just to get round to starting them, besides the ironing I did last week, I haven't run out of material yet and just hope I can get down south soon and get the signs out of the way. |

Nothing to add since yesterday besides my friend coming over and Carole now planning to come tomorrow as supposed to as well as the failed efforts this week, and with a virus. Had she not owed me the money I may have put her off, but unfortunately it's business before pleasure this time. Outside the activities, I have been turned down by the first literary agent, but the list is long and I can keep tweaking the text if required, I won't give up on this one as it's not about my career but a message which needs to get across.
How do we decide what we know and are interested in? Of course it's not possible, we are all exposed to similar things, and get attracted by the ones which interest us, and if we have a natural understanding or training in the area then we just get into it. With qualifications you can also make a career out of it, and otherwise as a reporter stand entirely on your merits and relatives if you have any who can help. Apart from a lifetime of collecting, the supernatural caught my interest, and can inspire everyone the same way, as even without more than a film or fairy story for outer inspiration, who hasn't had a dream where they went somewhere closer to heaven than here? The difference between where you were and here is so clear when you are there and wake up, and unlike the normal dreams these can last in their effects the whole day or longer, and drive you towards something as a result.
The essence of the supernatural and spiritual work is to open the veil between physical dimensions and the others while we are still alive, and as a result cross the boundary between earth and heaven personally. Without the need for trusting others all you need is to remember a few dreams and most people will realise they've all experienced the same things directly. But you don't need to be asleep or wait for one of the few rare times it happens, you take up a class or follow a written course, and start opening things up.
You have pretty much endless levels of possible results, and even when one or two arrive the others still seem as unlikely as the others probably would have before you've got them. I can click into other people's lives and information at times, and speak as if I know about them directly. I've seen auras often enough to know they must be just above the normal visual threshold but can be extended. And the synchronicities happening beyond my control need more work than anything else to arrange an entire world for one person. But once you've exposed these areas you feel like you've lost them when they go and do whatever you can to get them back.
As for the other interests they really suck you in rather than vice versa. When you learn something others don't generally know which is harming them as a result, what would most people do- nothing as they don't believe they have the power, nothing as it's not their business, or do everything within your power? I'd say 90% of people would say do everything, as you are motivated to save anyone who is in trouble just like a dog would. It's animal nature and if you didn't feel obliged to help others it would not be a good quality. Then you get the attacks and abuse from those running the harm and those who trust them, and do you give up? No, as would you rather be right or popular? Etcetera etcetera. So I keep going, but have little or no choice over whichever missions I pick up as they find me and not the other way round. |

I've kicked off the year with my first medium photo trip just before Reading as it gets dark just after 5 now and added about 80 pictures to the map. The car needs its MOT so won't have it tomorrow, delaying Louise a day although I wanted to go to football and can't do either now, she may have come with but has a bad throat so couldn't stand out in the cold anyway. I will get my milk on my bike if nothing else and go for a walk if it's not still raining, and anything else which needs doing indoors.
Carole came and went on Saturday meanwhile after two failed attempts, paid me for her train fare and I had to return a dying plant to the garden centre they claimed was from lack of water. All the other plants get watered and the leaves drooped when it needed it but they dried up whatever I did. After protesting my innocence they found a similar one for the same price (3 whole pounds) and I left satisfied. I'm hoping to get one of the long sign trips this month next as they're as much business as pleasure for me, and will spend some of my time here continuing to look for more.
I may also keep working on the book, I've got the sample chapters and will then copy the blog material over to the documents to keep it in its new order, and keep sending it to more agents until I may get lucky. And my email is finally working after finding it had signed me into what used to be called MSN but isn't now and has joined with Windows Mail, well it isn't any more and now it works. Had I known it changed the name from MSN I'd have left it well alone, and when I did sign in on MSN it brought over my entire Hotmail account, but luckily it keeps them separate and I deleted it as I don't have room for it all here.
It will be interesting to see what I manage tomorrow with no car, I was considering the next trip but maybe a bit soon after the last one yesterday so can't either way now, or Wednesday if he comes back with it later on, but there are more days left in the week. |

While I'm here, so far I've taken my bike to the shops and got about half the things I wanted (and need to go back tomorrow or so for some of the rest as one requires a battery identification) and been looking at all the roads near the latest sign to turn up late last night. I hope to go tomorrow depending when the car returns, I'm currently waiting for him to collect it (7.30 or so, it's 7.41 now) and should have no problem going before about 4pm if I want other photos as well. I've had no trouble mopping up time, mainly listening to old comedy on the radio as I tend to when it's on, and apart from football will have to trawl the cable channels if I want to watch anything else.
On the positive front Carole wanted to come yet again tomorrow (mainly as she has a single ticket to use) and I couldn't do it as I won't have the car. What a shame. Otherwise I'll just get on with it and hope I can get the next sign tomorrow, it's one I have already but extremely rare and not quite identical to it so will be an addition. |

The car is returned and all done up, so if all goes well it'll be used for it's next job tomorrow. Otherwise I finished the shopping, the battery for the doorbell was a bargain and I broke it putting it back in. The mechanic has taken it to see if he can repair it but how it can be so shoddy as not to manage a battery replacement when you bend the terminals I do not know.
So pretty much business as usual, and hope in a month or so I'll make the first big outing of the year. The map has 100km squares and besides getting photos in as many as possible (8 so far as I only add ones taken with the digital unless the old photos share the same places) the distance between the two furthest spots is the main ambition as you can get 9 squares with around a couple of 90 mile journeys, but in order to beat that you need to beat 125 miles each way horizontally and vertically and that adds a maximum to 12. So regardless of the number of squares it's not so much the location but the distance. I'm currently 3 miles short of that point, so one trip will do that, and the next is planned to add my 9th big square. I've always got to be adding things to my collections, and at least there's no time limit with travelling as train tickets stopped suddenly in 1988 and the old signs are dying out as well. So far everything's gone pretty smoothly this week so hope it continues and even improves. |

I 'forced myself' to go to Jordans to get the sign today (to quote my late grandma) as I was tired for some reason but not too tired to get there and wasn't too bad once I got in the car. The sign was very impressive and recently cleaned, so my equipment didn't need to be used. It covered a small patch of new map territory as well so got a nice extra bit of coverage as well. Now just like getting a huge bird pooping on your car just as you've had it cleaned Carole's coming tomorrow again (she has a spare ticket to use) so goodness knows where I'll have to drag her this time, especially as I'm going to my mother next so can't go in that direction and back twice. If the tea shop is open we can go there and I can take her to that station instead which is probably the most logical way to do it.
So it's been a good week, new territory covered, the car's sorted out and another sign, and just a minor pain in the backside tomorrow if it actually materialises. I'll just let whatever comes my way happen next, apart from deepest Sussex there isn't much else on the system till the clocks go forward in a month's time. |

Jordans is a quaker village just before Beaconsfield. I do regular sign searches and although I used the same terms this one only came up this week although there since 2011. It's not too far but there's no main road there so had to wind round country lanes and village greens for miles once I left Harefield but got me plenty of new areas on the way. The Sussex ones also aren't on a major route, and involved many junctions after leaving the main road at Horsham, something you really need to be in the mood for. But they're good ones and really can't let them pass me by.
Carole didn't come today (I did want a rest) but only delayed it till tomorrow if she does materialise. That often I can do without... |

God forbid! She's an echo from the past now freed to roam freely since her mother went into a home so she didn't have to stay and look after her. I am the unlucky recipient. Grace is only a slight problem when she drags me to boring pubs and have to sit there for ages thinking of things to talk about while watching my money disappear out of a glass. But I could happily live with her while Carole is like living with your boss but with no contract of employment to protect you.
So tomorrow looks doomed, she is more manageable than she was but always the potential to flare up like the old days (last year roughly) when she tried to call all the shots. And she's still single at 53? I really wonder why... Otherwise it's one day at a time, a month before my first major outing (I have a list and one of three planned I hope), and the rest will occur to me nearer the time. I'll send the book chapters to the next (of how many?) agent, until they run out as they did in 1994 and I printed them myself, but this is a full size one and can't afford it or the work taking it in plastic bags round every bookshop in London as I did for a whole year then. So I'll just get on with it and see what turns up. Grace wants to visit a couple of pubs past Richmond sooner or later, I'll do some busking to pay for the drinks in advance. |

Thanks Beth, On the list of ambitions I have many left, although the most important business ones were covered long ago. But when it comes to pleasure it's an area we simply can't attract in the same way we can pass exams or do a job well. No matter how much we try people will either come or go as they please whatever we do or don't do. I've learnt that only too many times and if the universe wants me to be with Grace and not the types I was certain about at the time then it's looking as much like if not I may not get another chance elsewhere, certainly not by my doing anyway.
The other sides are my career and wish to return to where I lived with my parents (the most expensive area in the world) although since the new room was added I'm not so bothered on that one. And my own personal development is down to meditation and we are already taught we have no control over the results, we can only make the starts. |

The angels must have fixed things to slow me down, I got up too early two days in a row when Carole was meant to come but didn't, so the third when I hoped to get to Sussex came I woke up too late as caught up, and simply couldn't be bothered today as unlike 20 years ago I don't always have the energy to drive 100 plus miles. So currently the only two trips left for signs are marginal, ie right buggers 40-50 miles away on lousy routes, and really need other things to do instead when I don't go, like the sign relatively nearby last week they must have provided- I searched the same terms for two years before it turned up having been there the whole time, did it again after and it wasn't on again.
So I have a free week at least, it now gets dark late enough to do the first long trip as well, and given the time and energy it's just when the first happens and I can relax again for a week or two. I don't like missing opportunities unless I have other things to do, and at the moment I don't. Again it may partly be down to the angels (I'm reading another book at the moment), and will see per day whether I've done something useful or not. I'm still sorting out the book and writing other things, and when they're done and online just let people know and forget them unless someone comes back to me on them or a chance comes to offer one for publication, the first was a few years on.
I certainly shouldn't feel guilty now as it's only a week since my last trip and a few days since my latest road sign, but ideally tomorrow I'll have the energy I didn't today and did last week when I didn't have a car, and get to Essex. The trouble with winter is it prevents any journeys beyond 20 miles for months so by the end of it I'm so used to pottering around locally a long trip seems like lifting huge weights. By last September I was used to 60-70 mile trips out in one direction including on motorways, and now I need to almost start again from scratch. Years ago I had friends who worked doing deliveries all over the place and simply sat in their cars as they drove, but they are long gone. Back then they still made the old train tickets so just went to get them and never took the camera anyway. I took it with me on random trips when I drove, but only took a few, so have them from Newmarket, Cambridge, Clacton, Peacehaven, Bexhill etc in the last 15 years but also went to the Isle of Wight twice and Bournemouth for train and boat tickets without it. Since going digital and starting my map from scratch have been to Newmarket again, between Peacehaven and Bexhill and various new places, but for seven years had a medium size saloon car which floated along major roads and I sat back and steered. With petrol going up I have a town car which is like climbing mountains past 60 mph.
No doubt once I get the first one done (I did a medium one last week but it was about 30 miles as it was still February) I will get back into it, and only have three big ones I want to do this year, the rest being optional, plus the two for signs. I have map ambitions, the next to beat the 125 miles between two points (currently 122.8 as it is converted from metric) and then get my 9th 100 km square in Cheltenham. Others include beating my east and north records and going further into a square at the far corner of my own which is very thin with the sea on one side.
Carole wanted to come tomorrow as she only has a week left on her ticket, and as she ruined three days in a row by not coming told her to come without seeing me and she seems to have accepted my position. I was ready two days running to see her and the three strike rule has applied. The cleaner's due on Wednesday so can't go far then so if the gods work my way tomorrow is currently the best chance if I do go anywhere. At least I'm free, have no physically based appointments or pains in the backside to see, and have a piece on climate questions and answers to type out as well. The rest is down to the fates, I hope they deliver as last week. |

I'm getting fed up with Carole saying she's coming almost every day, my mum caught me for gardening tomorrow just before I was asked so now appears to be Saturday, despite me telling her to use her ticket and come without having to see me as well. Hopefully once it's been used she won't be so desperate to come so soon next time. I discovered a small stretch of the parkland walk which was the old railway line in Highgate I'd never used and only walked yards from where my grandparents used to live but was hidden behind their old road.
I think the only thing now stopping me going to Essex is my energy, when I feel like it I can and otherwise I can't, and getting up two days running for nothing last week did me for a couple of days after. Unless I discover yet another sign closer then it's only the hard work ahead, and coming home today they had huge delays in Romford which was exactly where I would have been by then had I gone there. Years ago we used to go way past Essex on the same roads regularly and never got held up but this is the century of overcrowding.
At least I've got some nice photos and a video done today, and when I went to the community centre where I used to work as they have free local papers got a copy of Time Out instead for the first time in decades, it's now free (there anyway), thin paper and no ads which were the best thing in it, no idea how they manage without them as they were their biggest source of income back then. I'd just had lunch as the café was open but didn't want anything yet so maybe will do it next time. |
