"The Darkness" By Shane Walling

Darkness.
Is it safe to come out yet?
This place that hides my feelings.
Here I stand. All alone. Scared. Broken.
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worse.
I haven't seen the light in ages.
My thoughts and I trapped in silence.
Can someone rescue me? Please?
Show me that you care. Show me the way.
I'm lost. Walking alone, arms stretched out.
Hoping to find an exit. Nothing.
Darkness.
Can anyone hear my cries? Anyone at all?
I press on, but my strength weakens with every passing step.
The silence is deafening. Memories crowd my mind.
Pain fills my empty heart. I cannot continue.
Time to give up. This is the end.
My final serenade. I close my eyes.
Darkness.
My heart beats. The pain is gone.
I awake. My eyes need not to adjust.
For there you are. Whispering, "Take my hand."
A single match, struck on the wall.
Shadows dance on the ceiling.
We walk along the path. Hand in hand.
Light.

I wrote this a couple of weeks ago for a good friend of mine. She helped me get through the hardest thing I've ever dealt with in my life, my divorce. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever known. She's been a good friend since we met here at FT. I'm honored to have her as a friend.

Here's My Poem.

Sorry I'm so distant, kids. But I've been tending to a serious problem child who is being very difficult to enforce the rule of practice practice practice.

She's a bad drinker and keeps telling me that she isn't. She is very thirsty.

It's not easy being me right now. BUT I have to go to the lake because it's dark and there may be some mischief that should be stopped.

NOW she's having a bailyes on ice. I told her to leave me some for the morning!

Goodbye.

Every day I make Eggs Benedict for the supposed queen pirates breakfast. I refuse to make lobster salad. But WHATEVER. So there.

With the Pirate tied up in her Basement
Leelee managed to go for a stroll
To clear away the cobwebs
From being the host for a 'troll' ;)

She had planned such a busy week,
full of fun, fun, things to do
and was so Incredibly Casual.
So what was she to do?

Having roamed around outside
she wandered back inside
and made a delicious breakfast
while the Pirate starved a while!

The more she thought about it,
the more she realised
she was going to need reinforcements,
so she packed for New York City
and got the Pirate ready to go...

While Leelee was packing feverishly
AB was feeling low
Well after all A basement
Is not a Pirate Go!

After all the plotting and planning
she could only wonder why
she was in the Basement
While Lee was up inside!

"This isn't where a Pirate Queen
should spend the time of day" ...
with that she simply Got Untied
And promptly Ran Away!

Lee was ready to depart -
she'd checked the car for oil,
and water, fuel and food supplies,
Enough to carry two.

But what a sight did meet her eyes
when she walked down the Stairs
the Basement was Quite empty!
The Pirate Was Not There!

"Well damn!" she said as she stomped off
"that wasn't in the Scheme!
Now I suppose I'll have to go
And Find the Pirate Queen!"

She jumped in her little Chariot,
and started it First Go -
(Of course it Would not have wanted to take time
It was Leelee's don't you Know! ;)
