Topic: How did your day go my dear?

Posted by: s-m-w

Subject: How did your day go my dear?
Date: Aug 21 08

Gentle but enlightening thread letting everyone know how your day was and how you are..

(As this seems to be a topic which many have enjoyed it would be a shame to lose it due to a technical glitch!)

Enjoy...

You didn't pick a good time to travel Prof. I went to the 02 centre on Friday - main line trains were on strike and there were notices about disruption on loads of different tube lines.

Funnily enough, my journey was OK on Friday, despite the strike. Took me less than an hour from my home near Southend to reaching Greenwich and I was lucky on the way back as well.

Relaxing after the depart of my son and his lovely little family who had been staying for a week. The boys were a joy and baby Evie is growing up fast.

A sunny and glorious week-end spent having fun in the stream at Cardingmill...

Gary, there's obviously a gap between what is said and what is enforced. When the ban first came in, you didn't normally see people with cans or bottles. I suppose passengers and staff are getting more relaxed (complacent?) about it. The only way to ensure that it is enforced is to search everyone's luggage, or to have an obvious staff presence. Neither of those things is going to happen.

A person on the line, aka Passenger Incident, used to be a rare event. If it's now happening daily, we have big problems.

Don't see why the 'no booze' edict can't be rigorously enforced. After all,the thought police seem to have been very successful with that other social 'no-no' - smoking........!

I agree Red Viking but sadly they do not bother or so it seems.

Today I experienced one of those terribly awkward moments with an old boyfried. He showed up at my place of work very unexpectedly. I can't explain in detail, but it was horrible. I made a complete fool of myself. Guess that either means, A. I'm still hooked on him, B. I'm still attracted to him, or C. I was just caught completely off guard by him showing up in my comfort zone with someone else who looks almost exactly like I did when we met. Yuck. What a goofy turn of events. I wish there was still a Dear Abbey. I'd write her a letter for wise advice about how to handle future encounters with Mr. Never Ages and Dates Women Who Looked Just Like I Did Ten Years AGO! Oh, man, I really could have handled that better. And in my place of WORK! The only good thing about it was that he seemed as genuinely uncomfortable in my setting as I was with him being there. Double Yuck.

Oh well, I am sure this will all work out as all of fate's little FUNNIES always do. What a hoot?! Right? I mean this is funny. Sort of. But not really. What if he shows up again? How do I respond? Man. And for my mother to say, "Well, I never did understand why you couldn't hold on to him in the first place." That was the real kicker. Bad day. Very bad day. However, I don't have cancer, I still have the best job ever, and .... I swear... what will I do if he shows up again? You know what I'll do? I'll tell him he has to take his hat off. Maybe by now he has developed a bald spot.............. hmmmmmm..... that's a nice thought.

Hey Quickquizfun - Is there any way you could accidentally drop something on him? Hopefully something very hard, or yucky, or ridiculous? Or, next time - if there is a next time - as soon as you see him laugh hysterically. I tried that and it drove him nuts trying to figure out what I was laughing about. He ended up calling me three times, demanding to know what I was laughing about. I never did tell him, and he never came back. Although I would have preferred to drop something on him.
And, don't let what your mother said bother you. I've said dumber things to my children.

Just sat around all day chatting with my daughter, she had the day off from work and just came back from her vacation. It was a nice do nothing day.

Today I was at the garage at 8.30am, stereo on new car is way too low. The technician said it was a 'bit low', compared to the one in the showroom. I had him let me compare the volumes and said to him, 'it's a lot too low'. He agreed, new radio etc now on order.

Popped in to work to hand in time sheet. The new manager recently sent out a memo, I re read it again this morning. The memo was full of typos, examples; 'Munties (minutes) of meeting' and 'Badgers (think she meant badges lol) could be worn at all times'. I told her I was experiencing difficulties obtaining a badger....she almost smiled ;)

Garden centre for plants and a rather loud wooden wind chime for garden, lunch, followed by coffee with a friend, then prepared dinner....am shattered now.

Had nails done early this afternoon and now feel normal again... spent rest of the afternoon listening to the cricket... brilliant bowling by England... bring it on Australia... could well be famous last words there!

Lovely sunny day and a pleasant evening in store.

Moved six 'new' machines into the factory today - weighing over 10 tons. Now the real work begins - putting them back together, wiring them in and testing.Phew! Thats my weekend sorted. :((((

And Sherry,I've been listening to the cricket, nearly dropped a machine on my foot when Broad bowled Ricky Pouting! Aussies - 160 all out! ROFL!

Re-adjusts specs - phew, that's a bit better news... it certainly is a bit more positive - no thanks to the BBC doom and gloom on morning news programmes... right lot of Jonahs.

I'm afraid I nearly threw a tantrum. I certainly spat my dummy out of the window.

Once again, the people next door have had a shed-load of feral children staying for the weekend. Cue non-stop cigarette smoke, rancid barbecues Homer Simpson would love, and dawn to dusk noise.

Listening to children playing is lovely. Excitement, thoughtfulness, giggles and laughter. Sorry - that's normal children. All the neighbours do, adults and children alike, is scream and shout.

Nine hours of rancid smoky smells and loud screaming was enough, and at seven-ish I found myself yelling "Oh for God's sake do you ever stop!" out of the window, as I slammed it shut... and then five minutes later everything went quiet. They were probably having their final burst of screaming before they all went home in a nice smoky car.

I am now sitting by the open window, it's dark and cool, the air is fresh, and it's as quiet as it it the rest of the time - or used to be all the time before these dismal people moved in.

I've been thoroughly disturbed by the noise of the crickets in my garden-quite spoiled my afternoon nap. Then my neighbour, her daughters and grandkids invaded our swimming pool. And then they forced us to eat and drink at their barbecue-Gosh!I love my life here I do!

Thanks, Gary. Hugs welcome!

I really must remember to look for that witchcraft book. There must be a spell for them in there.
