Jonathan got his degree results a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't become official till today. A small celebration is in order, I think. Dover sole and champagne should do it. :)

Scrap the Dover sole: back to drawing board. Man in Sainsburys yesterday, masquerading as a manager (hah!), said it comes in every day. Today, woman on fish counter said Oh No It Doesn't, and apologised. So I prodded her her a pointy stick till she stopped apologising, and suggested bream.
Most men working in shops are neither use nor ornament. They may think waffling is clever, but customers are not impressed!

Fish rule of thumb...never buy on a Monday. Frankly, I feel the same about Sunday.
Friday is usually the last delivery day of fish (for restaurants) until it is delivered again on Monday.
As for the manager, he will be fish food if he doesn't cut it out and stop fibbing to customers.
My day is better. Husband is almost well from food poisoning and is back at work (albiet slow). Unfortunately, a friend (and co-worker) passed away over the weekend. It was totally unexpected and had nothing to do with her health issues. She was in hospital at the time.

Well my day started off well I won a buzzy bee scavenger hunt. But then on the easy game I got 6/10 and I felt really embarrassed :(

Ooh I forgot about the Monday fish rule. It might have changed though, with the "new" Sunday trading laws. I hope.
I was going to get a half-bottle of champagne, but I spotted full bottles half price, and couldn't resist. Should have, but couldn't. Tomorrow's going to be fun!
Good that H is getting back to normal. (Shame about his colleague.)

Please explain 'trading law", if you would be so kind.

I was thinking about the laws that govern when shops may open, how long they may stay open for, and what they may sell on various days of the week or year. For example, supermarkets can open up to 24 hours a day from Monday to Saturday, but no longer than six hours on a Sunday.
I think there was a time when you couldn't buy alcoholic drinks on a Sunday in the UK: you could buy a porn mag from a newsagent, but you couldn't buy a toothbrush. That was a very long time ago. Now I don't know of anything that isn't available all week.

We can't sell cars on Sunday but can buy pretty much anything else...including alcohol.
I don't know about being able to buy porn. Perhaps I'll treat myself to a bit of an adventure and find out.
If I don't come back, send bail money.
Thanks for explaining.

My pleasure.
I baked the bream in parcels with lemon, garlic and rosemary, and it worked. The champagne worked very well indeed. If I don't come back, send black coffee and a cold shower.

I have had a busy day:
Had a lie in because I'm off work
Played a couple of FT quizzes
Walked the dog
Licensed the dog
Bought a spare wheel for my new car (because Seat Leons don't come with them)
Washed the car
Bought a jack for my new car (because Seat Leons don't come with them)
Did some shopping
Bought some diesel
Cleaned out the guttering
Had a shower to wash off the gunk from cleaning out the guttering
Continued my task of reading all of Raymond E. Feist's books one after the other (1.5 down, 28 (I think) to go)
Watched some telly
Walked the dog
Managed to insult daymare without intending to
Poked about FT site for a while
Thought of a new quiz to write
And so to bed (00:26) here.
Good night everybody.

Good night, darksplash. No, you didn't insult me. We had a misunderstanding which was resolved in an excellent manner.
See you tomorrow?

You have to take the rough with the smooth. The good news was it was the first hot day of summer, which I greatly appreciate. Otherwise it was a relatively local shopping trip for an extremely rare type of cardigan not seen for decades after remembering seeing them when passing months ago. Of course they'd long gone and wandered round the other shops as they closed as we walked past and returned empty handed. Besides going to the gym I was in watching TV as most of it is crammed into Mondays at the moment with barely anything else until Friday and then Monday again. And I just spent an hour doing research for my global warming thread here as there was a lot of controversy over the sea level and had to check up as many details as possible which mean another late night but had to be done.

Darksplash, I got tired just reading your list of chores accomplished. Good for you!
I managed to finish up chores and errands that I had been putting off until I felt up to doing them. Have to admit that after getting off work, I wasted a couple of hours goofing off and playing FT.
Today was a bit of a crappy day, but tomorrow will be better, I'm sure!

Chatted with friends I met at the store. One was an Aussie that dropped by for a week or so. Worked on repairing an 18 foot wooden gate that had sagged over the year. Moved old carpeting to the garden for wife's flower. Watched the vote on the debt.

Finally finished staining my deck, mowed the lawn, trimmed edges, rearranged patio furniture, and helped put up a huge tent. We are having a family reunion next weekend on the family homestead(It's been in the family since 1932). So far the count is up to 105 attending.
So much work to finish up but I'm sure well worth it.

Have fun those on holiday! I need a holiday, but I had one in June. Yesterday was exhausting. Up at 6am, on the train by 7:20, at work at 8:30, left work at 10pm, home by 11:15pm, spilt loads of water on the plug socket, in bed at midnight.

The family reunion is right in my backyard. :)
I live on a 200 acre "farm". Everyone is traveling back here for the reunion.
I've never been to Niagara Falls but hopefully some day. My sister went there a few years ago and thought it was just amazing in size.

Day off today and just about to light up the bar-b-q.
As for the falls, well, its good (imho) for a day visit (especially if ya like getting wet) but not a place for a vacation of any duration.
Hope you have a great reunion.
