In order to try and prevent the boards getting clogged by threads that are read by many, but are rarely replied to, please post the interesting little news snippets in here.
This is not meant for major topics that will promote a discussion, but for the little oddities that you find in your local areas.
The first one below is an example. This was originally posted in Animals, but never had a single reply posted.

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I bet the dog's owners were happier than the goats were!

"A 10-year-old girl has suffered burns over 70% of her body after a 16-minute session at an unmanned tanning studio."
"Medics ... said if she had remained an extra two minutes, she would have needed skin grafts. Kelly has now been warned to keep out of direct sunlight for up to 10 years."

Ouch! I heard that one on the news today. Unbelievable with all the 'elf n safety regulations around that those things are still allowed. Life the mum said, you can tell your children 'til you're blue in the face....

Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman has denied a report she would fight for the party leadership, as speculation grows over Gordon Brown's position. But she insisted the story was "simply not true" and under "no circumstances" would she be a candidate.
"I'm loyally supporting the leadership of Gordon Brown" she says.

So, Harriet, when are you booked to be the next guest host on "Have I Got News for You"? And how long before she says "Oh all right then - if you insist" and we reply "Thank you, Prime Minister"?

According to ITV teletext, she's still saying that she won't stand for party leader, even if Gordon Brown does step down.

According to BBC teletext, she's still saying that: but she is also telling "friends" that she would stand if there were a leadership election. The BBC say they're quoting the Daily Telegraph, which is just a slightly upmarket version of the Daily Mail.

Good news - NHS hospital staff, nursing and auxiliary, will now have colour-coded uniforms. Different shades of blue will indicate different levels of nursing seniority, care workers will wear green. At last!

Bad news - it's only in Wales.
Well, bad news for the rest of us. We still have very few clues to help us distinguish between receptionists and staff nurses: charge nurses and cooks. Perhaps it'll spread. Any chance of common sense spreading too?

C30 Unfortunately Lesley, "Common sense" is far from "Common"!

You're right. What was I thinking?

Many moons ago, nursing auxillaries, SENs, student nurses, SRNs and Ward Sisters all wore different coloured uniforms. Seems like things are going full circle, at least in Wales.

Many moons ago, hospitals were run by Matrons. Properly. Not by a Director of Nursing with an accountant perched on each shoulder.

No-one was hurt here, but there has to be a joke here somewhere:

There's hope for all of us 'youngsters'. This shows that the internet is not just the domain of the young.

Also out of the running for Father of the Year is this guy, who tried to solicit a prostitute for his 14 year old son:

So very far removed from "Pretty Woman".

I heard that on the radio yesterday. The DJ was taking the attitude of "Well, what else would you do if that amount of money was deposited in your account?" Well, apart from any moral rights and wrongs, I wouldn't fancy looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life!

It'll be even harder if trust between the two of them breaks down - and it may break down without any good reason. So they may be looking in every direction simultaneously. Not much fun.

Think I'd have to give it back - prefer to be able to look myself in the eye whilst shaving.Rather than think about slitting my throat!

Re the dad who tattooed his seven year old with gang insignia: there's a case before the courts in my hometown regarding the custody of two young children (11 and 9, I think) who were removed from their parents because the older of the two had swastikas drawn on her arm by her mother, and racist slogans written with marker on her legs! When teachers washed them off, the mother re-drew them the next day! The father is demanding that his children be returned to his custody because their removal from his home is a violation of his right to free speech! This one is being closely watched by various groups and the oparents have emerged as poster children for the white supremacists in North America, on both sides of the 49th parallel.
