In order to try and prevent the boards getting clogged by threads that are read by many, but are rarely replied to, please post the interesting little news snippets in here.
This is not meant for major topics that will promote a discussion, but for the little oddities that you find in your local areas.
The first one below is an example. This was originally posted in Animals, but never had a single reply posted.

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

lesley153 Gilad Shalit was a nineteen-year-old Israeli soldier when he was kidnapped by Hamas, and held for more than five years, till he was released in return for about a thousand Arab "security" prisoners.

Ilan Grapel has just been released after being held, on spying charges, for five months. I hope he isn't too miffed because his worth was assessed at only 25 Egyptians.

"The United States, which provides Egypt with billions of dollars in military aid, took a hand in the negotiations due to Grapel's dual American-Israeli citizenship."

S.C. sheriff encourages women to carry guns in fanny packs

A county sheriff in South Carolina is urging women to get concealed weapons permits and carry guns.

Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright made the statements while discussing an attempted rape at a local park. Wright suggested a .45-caliber weapon, because "you don't have to be accurate, you just have to be close" to a target, the website reports.

He's right about that. A .45 might be too heavy for most women, though.

Keys are a good weapon. Also don't go for the soft parts on a guy, they spend their lives learning to defend that area. Go for the ankles, it hurts like heck and they never expect it.

My wife is 135 pounds and a .45 is not a problem for her. Most of the issue with handguns or shotguns in the hands of a woman is the stigma that men have created. Pants or skirts? A woman can handle any weapon that a man can. It's all in perception.

When I said that I wasn't good with a handgun, I meant because I don't practice much with them. I prefer a rifle.

A pregnant woman gets dizzy, eats a sandwich, forgets to have the checker scan the wrapper. Is arrested and has her 2 year old taken by child welfare for 18 hours. I'm suggesting people don't shop at Safeway.
