In order to try and prevent the boards getting clogged by threads that are read by many, but are rarely replied to, please post the interesting little news snippets in here.
This is not meant for major topics that will promote a discussion, but for the little oddities that you find in your local areas.
The first one below is an example. This was originally posted in Animals, but never had a single reply posted.

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Have a nice cup of tea, and wave goodbye to all your problems.

Didn't you watch the Dr Who Christmas Invasion episode?
End of the world looming again, Dr unconscious and the answer to the entire problem was...a lovely cup of tea.
A very British hero I have always felt. :)

No, no, RV, please don't sink! Grab hold of this teabag and I shall haul you back to land. And then you can join in the Monty Python sketch and tell of how a teabag saved your life.

No, RV, you won't have to do any of those things if you don't want to. Just wear suspendies and a bra. And keep whistling.

Mermaid? what fun!

"Man stabbed after answering fake ad"

"A man almost died after being attacked on his way to buy a car offered for sale in a fake advert on the Gumtree listings website."
http://latestnews.virginmedia.com/news/uk/2009/08/26/man_stabbed_after_answering_fake_ad?vmsrc=pamread

Moral: if you respond to an advert, don't go alone, don't go to isolated places in seedy areas, and don't take huge amounts of cash with you.

Whilst not condoning the robbery Lesley, when I read that article it struck me (not for the first time) that some people really shouldn't be let out on their own.

Good news, I think - a girl who was snatched from outside her home as a child has returned after 18 years - DNA tests are still to be completed but they seem pretty sure it's her.

This story holds a lot of memories for me. We moved to N Nevada not long after this kidnapping.
My husband and 11 year old daughter were driving home from the store, and were pulled over by the NHP and held for about an hour, while they made sure it wasn't Jaycee Lee Dugard, and her captor!
My daughter was the same age, had the same hair and eye color. Our car was the same color and make. The police thought they'd hit the jackpot when her name was also similar--Jaime Leigh! I hope the girl has been well, and can't wait to hear her story. Today is my daughter's 29th birthday...

The balloon landed on the ground and they are reporting the child was not in the balloon. They are unsure if he was in the balloon, they had assumed so though and I am guessing no one has seen the kid.

supersal1 I'd just read about that BX, how awful. I just hope that he wasn't in the balloon.

The BNP is to amend is membership requirements as the current ones fall foul of race regulations. No, really?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8308582.stm

Considering the current one says that if one of your children is married to someone of a different race you would not be a suitable member, I wonder it's taken them so long to notice.
