I haven't run this past other llamas but here's a suggestion.
1. Base the challenge around the Team Heroes game.
2. This will test a huge variety of knowledge.
3. Rather than get into averages and the like, make it a straight head to head challenge based upon the top ten placings each day which would also compare strength in depth.
4. Thus .... 1st Oct, compare the two top scores for that day and award a point to the team whose player has the higher score.
5. 2nd Oct, compare the second placed scores and so on until 10th Oct when you compare the tenth placed finishers. Then on 11th Oct, you're back to firsts and continue from there in the same way.
6. Team Hero scores for the previous day are displayed so it would be easy to verify.
7. If a team fails to field enough finishers on a particular day when it matters then that would count as a default.
8. October has 31 days so it will produce a result unless we have the extraordinarily unlikely event of a day where the scores are tied.
9. It will also make it a real team-based game and so, if anyone has to be away for a few days, they won't feel that they're letting the side down too much.

I think just head to head is fine, you Llamas basically own us at team vs team due to the fact we let everyone play. We let everyone play hero's as well. we have a strengths and our weakness, so I'm not one for changing the rules. I feel the game is fair as is.

Thanks Glenda for talking the time and showing some creativity in proposing a game plan. I really mean that ;-)
However, I believe the Heroes game should be played as currently designed. It bases rankings on the top five not ten players. All that other stuff like picking who is the highest on a certain day isn't really a team metric. We win as a team or we lose as a team. All that other stuff is just smoke and mirrors.
Most of our team doesn't like the idea of loosing to Google....so we should put a reasonable cap on the time allowed per game, perhaps 120 seconds.
If we don't leave the scoring pretty much as is, someone is going to have to massage the numbers and that can cause unnecessary problems.
Basically the Heroes game is designed for head to head play.
i.e. each day either a pirate finishes ahead of a Llama or vice versa. The team finishing ahead wins the day (You finish fourth and we finish fifth. You win the day). So at the end of month we add up who won the most days.
I think we may become more creative in future as we look for was to stimulate interest or put a new spin on the game.

The idea about stretching to a top 5 wasn't meant to be anti-team but pro-team. Often, the same people appear in a top 5 and it was to say to anyone on the team, capable of finishing in the top ten, that their contribution could be important. However, I think our team would be happy to base it on the daily result with one point per day going to the higher placed team.
Timing is a more difficult issue to work out. To start with, there are some subjects where questions are short and easy and times are quick but there are other obscure subjects where I can take 120 seconds just to read and understand the questions. I, and I'm sure others, would feel agrieved to be eliminated just through being slow readers. It's also the case that this is a team where we're happy to let our members use whatever method works for them. Personally, I may google some TvT questions but don't see the need on the Team Heroes. We're happy for members to go on personal preference and that would be non-negotiable from our side. Ironically, my original suggestion would make googling less likely to influence matters assuming people using the method are in the minority.
So to sum up, I think we'd be happy just to base it on the standing each day. Higher placed team gets a point fpor that day. No other restrictions. Interested?

Not here I'm afraid but I do have my patented method of playing Buffy quizzes.
1) If you can, pick Angel (ditto if the quiz is on Rent)
2) If not Angel, then Willow.
3) If not Willow, then Buffy.
4) If not Buffy, then whoever's got the funniest name.
5) If no-one has a funny name, then the third option.
Works like a dream, so much so that I scored .... 2 last time out! :(

Hmmm I have a very similar strategy. When Buffy questions are the topic, if it sounds like a girl...Buffy is my answer. If it sounds like a boy....Xander is my answer. If there happens to be a question without a boy/girl answer, I go for the lewd, crude one.
About the challenge. I am philosophically against Googling in competitive quizzes. But if it is non negotiable....well I am perfectly capable of Googling and quite good at it. So if that is an option you want to leave open then I guess we'll just have to do our best ;-)
I'm in as long as the majority of our team has no qualms with it.
