Leith, when I'm done with my telescope words, I'll work on the Chain Gang A-Z series; when that's done, I have another alphabet series that I stopped writing for because the category was a very very long wait... I wanted to get them online all super fast once the queue is down more, which doesn't seem like it will happen unless there is another editor or two in the category. ;-) haha.

Has anyone else noticed this? - I have seen the same thing at least twice recently (and no I am not being any more specific than that...) - when there is only one, or maybe two, quizzes on a particular topic already online, wouldn't you think that anyone who wrote a new quiz on that topic could do so without duplicating (and I use that word kindly rather than copying as I am feeling benevolent this morning ;-) ) the existing questions, especially when the existing quiz only has 10 Qs in it. If it is too hard to come up with 10 totally different questions on a topic then, just maybe, there isn't a need for another quiz on that topic...

Of course, I am not at all sure that everyone researches what is there before writing their own quiz.

I've just spent half an hour checking out other quizzes in the same area as the one I have in mind for my Disney quiz to avoid duplications. Then I find this topic! I actually changed a question on my last quiz before submitting it as I found it had been used in another new quiz. I've abandoned ideas in the past because I've found it impossible to come up with original questions.

I don't think to ask questions that have been directly asked in other quizzes on the same topic (I actually don't really like to make quizzes on topics that already have quizzes, depending on the category), but sometimes if a question has been asked in what I feel is a poor way (usually old quizzes), I might use the same idea but improve on it as I see fit.
It is really annoying though to play quizzes that are very similar to my own! I wrote a Movies quiz once, on a specific movie, and it was the first quiz about that movie. A few weeks later, another quiz on that movie went online. This would not have irked me at all, had 7 out of 10 questions not been exactly what I asked! I don't feel that the author purposely copied mine, but I think she could have made an effort to play mine and not ask the same questions (a few were like "What kind of store did the character work at?" "What was so-and-so's sister's name?")

Guitargoddess, I'm like you in that I don't really like to make quizzes on something that's already been done, especially movie quizzes. I will if it's something I really want to write a quiz about, but I'm always careful not to repeat any questions if possible. That's probably the main reason I don't like to make quizzes on movies that already have them--it limits me in what I can ask.
Since this thread is about quizzes we're working on/have just finished, I just got my first quiz online in about a year! It's nice to see I've gotten compliments on it because that lets me know that I'm not that rusty.

Let me join the crowd in saying that I try to check if questions I am thinking of using have been in previous quizzes.
In the past I have considered writing duplicate, ones that ask for the same answer, questions if I was attempting to improve on quality.

Part of my quiz research includes playing quizzes on the same subject, and making notes of which questions were asked so I don't repeat them.
And like GG I put a quiz online (on a limited subject) only to have someone do a copycat later. I like to think that this person made their quiz without looking to see if one was already done rather than deliberately taking the idea.

I'm throwing together a quiz on my local art museum.
I've had a series on Kenya that's been stewing for over a year. Don't know if I'll ever get it done.

Does anyone remember if there's something I'm supposed to be working on, other than the current Commission and my Religion quiz in the Agatha Christie challenge? I think that's all I signed up for but I have this feeling there's something I'm forgetting... there's always so much going on here, and things I say to myself 'ooh I might take that if it's still available later..', so I'm confused as to whether or not I actually ever did claim anything else!

I think you were working on a Bus Ride quiz too, GG. Can't remember if you've already finished it.

Guitargoddess, I have a record that you said you would write a quiz for the Solomon Islands. Rowena 8482 later volunteered for it, then nioticed that you had already, and said you could take it. Neither of you has as yet produced one!

That should be it, but you could take the last Foo Fighters title if you want! ;)

I deleted my Solomon Islands template looney, so don't sit waiting for that lol. I'd only written one Q when I found out GG was doing one so I didn't bother. I'm doing another Setlist Challenge one now, and still procrastinating the history and geography invertebrate ones...

i wasn't waiting for you, Row, just hoping SOMEONE does it! I have been so busy taking up the slack on the bus Ride that I have hardly written anything else, it seems.

Oh that's right, Solomon Islands. That's one already got a template created and half filled-in so I guess that's why I didn't think of it! (If that makes sense.. I was thinking about ones that haven't quite been started yet). And I know it's not needed til the next Bus Ride starts, so I mentally pushed that aside for the time in favour of the Commission and Agatha Christie challenge.
But you'll pleased to know that today at work I had to fill in for someone's secretary for 6 hours, so in between waiting for the phone to ring, I got a very great start on both of those signed-up quizzes in terms of planning and research :)
