Oooo you can always branch out into a Challenge or Commission quiz when the next ones start (or some of the current ones have titles unclaimed too) myc :-D Go on, you know you want to :-D We're always on the look out for new writers to join in - we have chocolate! (and apparently there's even wine somewhere...)

LOL Rowena, thanks for the invite. I must admit there have been many times I lurk around on these boards and mull over the titles in the commission quizzes, but was always a bit unsure of myself. So many of the people who participate seem to be much more experienced than I am with my mere 18 quizzes under my belt. I'm not even sure of something as simple as how to claim the title...chocolate does sound good though :)

Re: "I'm not even sure of something as simple as how to claim the title"
If you find a title that hasn't been taken amongst the challenges, just say your name, start a template, and start writing. :)
We'd be happy to welcome you in.

There might be some full bottles stashed behind the sofa, but I wouldn't guarantee it. Most of them look empty to me. When I first started venturing into the lounge, I hadn't written many quizzes either and a year or so later I have 98. Give it a try - sometimes it helps to have that challenge in front of you.

And on the "stepping up" ones, the titles come from the author's quiz challenge list, which is on the left hand side of your Author Central page - you take it from there to link your template to the challenge, as well as posting in the thread here in the Lounge. Those are the only ones that need that though, the ones Kyle sets us (he is CRUEL lol), you just need to post in the thread here.

nyc: Don't be afraid to pick a title! I've only written 11 quizzes, so you're much more experienced than I am. Almost all of mine with good ratings are either Challenge or Commission quizzes. Sure, we all have favourite authors (and we might play those quizzes first, if they're new), but in general nobody cares whether you've written zero quizzes before or 3,000. I can think of several authors whose first few efforts have even resulted in Editor's Choice badges. I have never felt any "clique" mentality in Challenges/Commissions, in fact QUITE the opposite! I like them, particularly, because I have a hard time thinking of a theme on my own.
Anyway, no need for you to "worry" - just go for it! : )

Needs more wine. :)

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the encouragement. I think I will give it a go. As soon as I wrap up the quiz I initially posted about in the first place, I'll start shopping around for a title.

Commissions are a bit different. When one of them is about to start, a new thread appears inviting participants to join in, and telling us what we have to do. Usually that means sending kyle a proposed title. The catch is that someone ELSE gets your title, and you get one that another author has submitted. It can be a bit frightening worrying about what someone is going to ask you to work with! But the feeling of satisfaction when you see how to make it work and get the quiz online is amazing. Better than a chocolate rush combined with a glass of wine (and that's saying something :D).
Challenges are straightforward, since you see the title or area you plan to claim, and know what you are going to have to do. I found them a great way to come up with new ideas when I first found the lounge, with only about 40 quizzes written, and still do. BTW, there are a lot of countries whose quizzes on the Bus Ride rank in the lower half of the quizzes on the site - new ones always welcome, and you'ld be amazed how much you can find out about a place by researching to write a quiz!

Thank you for all the info looney. I had no idea that the commission worked that way, so I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me. You're right, it does sound a wee bit scary not knowing what you'll be getting, but I guess in a way, I can look at it like it's a test. If I can't come up with anything imaginative then I know I should just stick to the challenges instead.
I have actually also browsed through the author challenges in the "tower of challenges", and even outlined a quiz on one of the titles I found there, some of those titles are so funny. Just when I was starting to think maybe I would finally do it, the leader of our team left the team, and I was "nominated" to take it over, so I got kind of busy with that, which was only a week ago, but when things settle down, I would really like to begin writing more quizzes.
Oh yeah...and having some wine and chocolate :)

Eeeep! I got an EC! I am so happy! I've never been this happy, not even with my first EC! Eeeep! I think I'm more exciting because last time, Terry had made a BUNCH of quizzes ECs, so it wasn't as surprising... This one I just LOVE and will cherish for all my life. :-)

I just got my first question and badge on the introductory level. Now I am trying my hand at a Scrabble quiz. This is my first try. Hopefully, this will be an okay thing for me and the editors.

Congratulations SS. Your enthusiasm about absolutely everything makes me smile quite frequently. Reading a posting from you can be very refreshing after wading through piles of forum messages where (sometimes) there seems to be more whine being shared than wine : )
As for what quiz I'm working on now? I appear to be continuing to procrastinate on my geo quiz (but I've at least made recent progress by printing out a map of the country so I can plan a train/travel route). I've just (recklessly, no doubt) signed up for a "not quite the movies" quiz and plan to apply it to history (yet another category I haven't tried so far). Will see how that goes.

Congratulations on exploring a new category, Jakeroo. It can be a bit intimidating, but the process of working out what is required for quizzes in the various categories makes you a more confident writer, with more options when facing choices about quiz topics in the future. Of course, sometimes you discover that you don't really enjoy writing for a particular category, but that's all part of the learning experience.

My stockpile of 'new quizzes' is coming to an end. If I get this presentation I have to write done tonight (about horror films!) I'm free to write for a week or two. :)

Thanks, all. It's definitely a thrilling thing to get a thumb! Sometimes, late at night, I have dreams that go something like "this is it, the quiz in the queue is my personal favorite; if this doesn't get a thumb, none of my quizzes ever will". This one I didn't think was as good, but the editor did. lol. It goes to show me, you never know what will be an EC. :-) lol.
