Be positive! Same as my attitude. Surprising how many ABs turned up - that's supposed to be the rarest. B+ seems to be fairly common in Scandinavia. I used to donate blood regularly, gallons, but had to stop when dr. prescribed coumadin.
If you're really into donating you can try pheresis, which is done to extract red or white cells or plasma - and your blood is returned to you minus that element while you're donating.
Coming back in at room temp it makes you a bit cold, but they will give you a blanket. The beauty of pheresis is that you can donate far more often than with whole blood, almost every day because your body will reconstruct what it's lost. I haven't been allowed to donate that way either in many years so maybe it's changed.

My blood bank called me today. I'm going in on Tuesday to donate platelets. It a real pain, because it takes hours, but they said they were in desperate need, so I guess I'll do it. It doesn't hurt at all, but you have to lie perfectly still, which is difficult for me. I always end up watching the clock and thinking, "Please let this be over soon!"

Years ago while I was in one of those emergency donation call-ups, my blanket got a little twisted, and I was not as cold as usual - of course, I couldn't see that the in and out tubes had gotten twisted and nobody knew till it backed up and blew up spraying blood all over. They used to call quite often, somewhere around Newington, CT.
