I think I read that the American Indians introduced popcorn to the Pilgrims...? I thought it was a worldwide treat. I know, Americans believe they are the 'be all, end all.' ;)

For a long time after my first trip to Spain in 1973, I noticed that sunflower seeds were the preferred snack at the movies, not popcorn. Corn in general has greater acceptance there now, but it's traditionally been considered as fodder for animals.
Somehow, I can't see Lesley eating popcorn. She's a tea drinker, and popcorn requires soda!

Lesley's fine but sent me a message around lunchtime she's been locked out of the site due to a security problem, and had two more reports since then. Until Terry can sort it out we've got a few regulars sitting and waiting behind the bars...

A security problem? Strange--I had no trouble whatsoever getting in! (What am I missing here?)

Then again, reminds me of the time, not long ago, when I couldn't get in for a day or so due to a security problem.

She had a train trip to London and a lovely lunch, Lochalsh.
But each time she's checked still no FT access - not even to her private tournament. Nearly 36 hours I think... :(
Hope it's sorted soon.

Now I'm embarrassed. I wasn't inquiring about her exact whereabouts--she's a big girl, after all, and may go where she pleases!

Apologies to anyone who thought I'd killed myself with the microwave.
I was locked out of FT for 41 hours, on the receiving end of some pretty aggressive stock "access forbidden!" messages, and was in two minds about bothering to come back, even if I could.
I am now looking forward to
1. an explanation.
2. an apology. |

I apologize. I should never have mentioned popcorn to an Englishwoman. The substance is obviously anathema on the sceptered isle, or at least in Bedford, but I never thought the word itself would drive you away from FunParadise!

If only it were as simple as a popcorn event!
I wrote a long post, no longer than others I've made, mentioning McGonagall briefly, but mostly about the joy of looking for a new microwave: hit "post reply" and got this:
"Security Note
"Our system has detected input that it does not like. We have logged this input and an administrator will check it shortly. IP address ab.cd.efg.hi history logged for analysis.
"Our apologies if this note is in error, but we are currently on a heightened security level due to recent attacks against our server. HERE 3: ab.cd.efg.hi"
What input that it does not like? I had copied and pasted an extract from a shop website, which had a few lines ending in the Pointy Things that might make the server, filter, whatever, think they were HTML tags. So I replaced them with asterisks and tried again. Ooh nasty.
"Access forbidden!
"You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.
"If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster [URL].
"Error 403 - www.funtrivia.com - Apache"
Give up trying. But hey-ho - it doesn't really matter, because it promises me that an administrator will check it shortly, so that's all right then. Shortly? Har bloody har.
How long does it take to unblock an "accidentally" blocked IP address? 41 hours or 41 seconds? |

| Thanks, all. Gary - unlikely. Judy, wouldn't it? An over-sensitive firewall, perhaps. Something that interprets a long post as a server attack. Still, I had 41 hours to think: why do I bother? |
