If you actually bought the shampoo rather than read it and realise first then you can pursue the compensation route, and being in a joint contract the retailer and manufacturer are all connected and can sue either, usually the richer of the two. You can take that route up to six years after purchase so definitely worth a mention if you've been misrepresented to.
I thought you bumped into Merv longer ago than a few days, I expect anywhere smaller than London is harder to avoid local characters, I love seeing the same people around and prefer the rough with the smooth than only seeing unknown neighbours entering or leaving their houses at best. My ex in Manchester sees people from school every week, we did every time we went to somewhere to eat, not where she lived but in town and the small places out of town as there aren't that many alternatives compared to here. Maybe if he pesters you again you could train him a bit more as he appears fairly amenable and rather be told off than avoided, but I don't have to put up with him.

Ooh I hadn't thought of that! I would certainly have made a huge fuss if I'd bought it first and read the labelling afterwards.
I've just had a response to the email I sent two days ago, in which I asked them "Has contract law ceased to exist?" There's the normal flannel about your feedback is important to us, and then the fun bit:
"We want to ensure you receive great service, so I need to investigate your query a little further. We’ll be back in touch as soon as possible.
"Thanks for your patience."
No, I haven't heard from Trading Standards yet. Losing the will to live here. |

The postie just trudged up our path, pulling his little red wagon through the trackless icy wastes, shivering and blue round the edges, and delivered a very oddly shaped parcel with my darling "Roving Pink Marshmallow of Havoc"'s name on it :-D I shall let you know how the knitting lessons go lol, as soon as I find some wool. There's bound to be a ball or two around here somewhere, so I suspect Sidney Tuna will be getting a scarf for Xmas this year. (He's been waiting for boots for about 3 years now, but the thought of having to do 20 has always put me off...)

Ooh good. Perhaps he'll be able to tell me where Jonathan's contact lenses went missing.
Off to London again, nother concert. Car failed its MOT yesterday (*sob*) so I shall be carless for a week or thereabouts. Crap weather for it. Back later. |

I'd try a cost benefit analysis this time round depending on the bill, once they start falling apart it's usually terminal. And in this weather a week off the ice in the country roads may not be such a bad thing.

Thanks, Gary. You don't have to be carless for it to be crap weather - it's crap weather for all of us.
David, it probably is terminal but right now I'd rather fork out for repairs than fart about getting a new car. And I'm not driving on any country roads! Not till spring! |

| PS It was a brilliant concert - Elgar, Prokofiev and Shostakovitch - and the journeys were smooth. Even the last leg. With 15 minutes to go, I rang for a mini-cab, and the driver got there at the same time as us. Nice - and a lot cheaper than the hackney carriages in the station. |

Dunno what you lot are complaining about "crap weather" for, nothing wrong with the weather! Looking out of lounge window, smattering of frost on lawn, brilliant sunshine, albeit a tad chilly.
Mind you, were I still living in my native East Anglia I might have reason to re-consider opinion of weather!
Glad you enjoyed the concert Lesley, whatever the repairs to car cost, as a "short term" solution, must be a lot cheaper than a new car! Whether or not it is "false economy" only time will tell.

Jonathan came back with me last night, just for the day. It's bitter here today. He took me into town - by bus - and we wandered round the shops for a couple of hours. If he hadn't said "let's go," I wouldn't have gone anywhere!
We stopped for tea and a snack. The food and tea were OK but there were half a dozen girls, twenty-somethings, on a table in the middle of the floor, and they were loud. They were shouting and laughing and squawking the whole time we were there. It's OK, they'll go soon. They didn't. They were so loud, everyone else was shouting to be heard above them. It was a great relief when they went. What a shame it would be if they all woke up with sore throats. A group of people chatting and giggling is lovely. Why do people think that chatting and giggling isn't enough, and that non-stop shouting and cackling are acceptable behaviour?
We got the phone charger he wanted, and to the bus station to get some peanut butter in the Wholefoods shop, where the owner said he thought he hadn't seen me for a while. :) And then the bus home. I was wearing four layers - sheepskin over wool over cotton over silk - and sheepskin gloves, and I can't remember the last time I was this cold. Perhaps I should have gone out more.
The cost of the repairs is enough to buy an old banger with a three-month warranty if I'm lucky. My car is old but comfortable, and I'm happy to keep it going. A lot of people have told me to get something smaller and more economical. Fine, I shall do that, if they buy it for me. Get your wallet out or mind your own business thankyouplease. |

I sometimes forget to eat before I go out in the cold, and then I pay for my oversight in chilliness. It's amazing what a little nosh will do--food is indeed fuel, in several ways!

If your car suits you, Lesley - if it's a good fit - then it's worth hanging onto, if it can still be repaired.

I just remembered what the people told me after they bought some of my cars... I didn't ask much for them and they lasted a while but did come to bits in the end as expected.

Oh Lesley, the girls were loud and obnoxious because they spotted Jonathan, and thought he was the be all, end all!;)
You know how girls are...However, loud is usually rude, and not likely to attract someone worthy.
So, you will keep the Jag? I think that is very wise. It's more or less, an old friend, and it just needs a little TLC.
Glad you had a lovely concert, and extras. :)

Thank you for nice comments and support!
VM, I like your style but they were loud and obnoxious well before we got there. It would be fitting if they gave themselves sore throats and headaches.
Jonathan is on a mission to stop me spending so much time on he computer. Going into town together was nice. Cold but nice. Then he decided to travel back in daylight rather than tonight, and turfed me off so he could do some work on his job applications. He was working on cramming something about teamwork into 100 words, and he's just gone to bed at 3.30. Back to normal tomorrow, perhaps. |

It was -6C overnight and the tank in the unlagged loft has frozen. :)
Not to worry - I've had yet another email from Sainsbury. On a Sunday?
"In a situation like this, you may return the product to one of our stores along with your receipt if you are unhappy with it. This would fulfil our contractual obligations with you as a customer. However, to address any mistakes with the labelling of the product, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly to recieve a full explanation."
And then there's the usual closing spiel about we value feedback and hope to see you again in store soon. And here is my final reply:
"I didn't buy it so there's nothing to return, and I'm not going to get involved with another dead-end conversation with manufacturers - that's your job. Does it not bother you that at least one customer sees the labelling as misleading or just plain dishonest?"
I really am bored with the whole thing. They don't care and I haven't bought any of it so I don't care either. It'll be interesting to see if Trading Standard care - but perhaps not that interesting. |

| Ooh forgot to mention - on Friday in Boots I bought a pot of vitamin C pills, in a grown-up pot, not a childproof one! It has the words "easy open" carved on it. At last, a company taking notice of its irritated customers. :) |

Keep the Jag! It sounds like it's a member of the family and deserves to be treated as such. When M got made redundant that time, we consciously decided that if it came down to a choice between the car and the house, we kept the car! We have a people carrier (it's silver :-D and I know no more than that lol) and we bought it when I was carrying the Baby, knowing we needed one to get everyone in, especially the three child seats for the little ones, and it has served us well ever since. I can't even drive, but I know which I'd rather have - I love our car and will mourn truly on the horrible day when we have to (eventually) part with it!

Thank you, thank you! It is part of the family almost. I've also been told that a new car would be cleaner and greener and more economical to run, all that nonsense. Keeping your car is a lot greener than buying a new one, so there...
**sticks tongue out (at all these people telling me to buy a turtle on wheels) and runs away**
I drove myself to a cardiac rehab session a few weeks ago, and got there too late to park properly. It would have been easier of course if fewer drivers had taken two spaces, but still, it was off-road parking so I wouldn't be blocking in a stranger. The first thing I did when I got inside was tell the group that I had blocked in an Astra, registration XYZ. No response. One of the nurses asked me what colour it was. "I think it's navy blue." At which one of the women perked up and said it was her husband's car. I thought she was a one off. Not to worry. Rowena is unique. :) |
