Thanks everyone, and same to you - even if you are going out of your way to make me jealous!
Jonathan spent a week in S Africa (Jo'burg) about eleven months ago, and he loved it. Said it was warm and beautiful and cheerful, and he didn't want to come home. (He came home because they were invited back next year.)
Yes, I do know how lucky I am and may even have told him so... occasionally. I let the warmth of the engine, the inside-the-car heater and the back window heater do most of the work for me, and attacked the softening snow with a yard broom. The snow was about 6" deep. In Canada (for example) a quick flick would probably have been enough to knock the snw off, but this was the best of British snow - packed and wet and heavy.
A self-defrosting car? I want one! |

You guys are funny! The BEST self defroster is the GARAGE! My car also has a button that starts the car from a distance...If you don't have a garage.
Merry Merry!

I have a garage I can't get to because the garage is behind the house, instead of in front, or flush with the front of it, like normal garages, and the space between the house and the fence is narrower than the car.
But I do have a very good defroster. Unfortunately, he's usually only home in the holidays. |

My mom has a garage--but she has to walk three or four feet from the house to get to it!

My garage is off my laundry room. Never, do I need to go outside to get to my car. Wonderful, huh? :)

| Walking three or four feet doesn't sound like much - unless it's through thigh-high snow. Going from the house to the garage? That's wonderful. And enviable. (I think I may be pouting.) |

Don't pout. Your face may freeze that way. (Yes, I had a mother.)

Well it's been bucketing it down here today and for most of the summer so far.
The rains do come in the summer in KZN but it's usually sunny and hot through the day and thunder storms and rain at night. Something has gone a bit wrong this year because day time temps have sometimes dropped really low. I've even had to but a cardie on occasionally!
It makes me wonder what next winter will be like

My garage is detached from house...next to perimeter fence, so maybe 25-30yds walk. Like the house itself, due to lack of funds, is not in pristine condition. This means the double doors will not close properly, and so to act as "back up" to the lock, have an old battery against the doors on the outside. This is currently welded to ground with ice, so I cannot move it, or open doors without resorting to de-icer. Luckily I have no reason to get car out anyhow currently.

I stopped pouting - honest!
A cardie? whatever next! With global warming, you'll probably need a sheepskin coat. Sorry. :(
My garage has an up-and-over door and it's broken. I can kick it closed but not lock it.
Actually it's probably best left unlocked. A few years ago, one of our kittens went missing. I heard mewing from the garage, looked inside, no sound or movement inside, decided I was imagining it. A builder working next door heard mewing too. As he was very tall, he could see the ceiling joists, and reached up and brought down one very cold tired hungry bedraggled and very frightened kitten.
New neighbours a few years ago came with two cats, one of which went missing, and I was going to be in London for a week, so I left the door open so that they could look inside for wayward cats. I thought it was easier for a cat to find a way in than for a human to find a way out.
No problem till Merv walked past the house and rang me on my mobile to ask if I knew the garage door was open. Nice having someone looking out for you, except when he treats you like an eight-year-old. |

Took a sheepskin coat with me to Frankfurt in early November - Only wore it once - never used the slippers and thermals Caro packed for me. Global warming??

And "thank goodness for tall people"

At 5ft 7" and thus 3" under average height for an adult male in this country, I do find when cutting back the rambling rose bushes to prevent them from "attacking" people walking along the pavement, lack of height is a distinct disadvantage.

Poor kitty indeed - he was very clingy for quite a long time. And then he ran away, as male cats are won't to do. Shame - he was a good cat, and good-looking, with a mass of grey fur, which people who know about cats called blue.
Ray, you're still taller than me. **thinks** Most people are taller than me. :) |
