Group hug! Wonderful. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jonathan went off this morning. He was going to get up at 9.30 and bring me a cup of tea in bed, and I would drive him to the station by 11.30. The plan was that he would meet Lyndsey in Wokingham, to see a film in Bracknell at 3pm.
OK, what really happened. I got up at 10.15 and took him up a smoothie, a bowl of muesli and a cauldron of tea. While he was having his breakfast (in bed), I made him a couple of sandwiches to eat on the journey. At 11.30, instead of getting in the car, he decided to have a shower. He showered and dressed quickly, picked up his backpack, a soft bag in one hand, and his violin in the other, and I drove him to the station.
A few yards from the house, he realised that he had left his nice new sheepskin gloves behind. "No, don't go back for them, it's not going to be cold for a few days." Several hours later, he asked if I'd seen his keys. Since then, I've spotted a few other things he's left...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He's going to come back on Thursday to pick them up, and he's suggested "taking me" to see the film he saw this afternoon. Sounds good.

It is lovely.
Today I got up at 8.30 (aargh) and was scrubbed up by nine for a man who was coming to talk about replacing my heating system. Lunch, out for an Alexander lesson, a visit to the Post Office, then home for a man who was coming to talk about lagging the loft.
Busy day, lots of real people to talk to. Apologies for all the messages and emails I haven't answered. I will, I promise!
Bed now. I think I shall sleep well. Night! :) |

It does get really weird the times real life takes over from the internet but of course everything we do is real life anyway. Is that a good excuse? ;)

Why do I suddenly feel like the Velveteen Rabbit, prior to transformation?

David, it's very odd indeed but rather nice. And it's like riding a bike - you never forget how it works. Except I never learnt to ride a bike without falling off. Does that take anything away from my analogy?
Sorry, VM, they were both of the male persuasion, but tomorrow I shall see a friend who was going to Israel on Monday (two days ago) but changed the flight to next week, so she's coming back to see her mummy again and we shall have coffee and a gossip. Jonathan is coming tomorrow too, and his girlfriend will come with him, so that almost makes up for two men on the same day. Sort of.
Lochalsh, thank you once again for adding to my repertoire of kulcher. I hadn't heard of the Velveteen Rabbit. I have now, and I read about the story, bit I don't understand why you should feel like the Velveteen Rabbit. The last thing it did "prior to transformation" was shed a tear, wasn't it? I hope that's not what you meant!
Gary, keep the hugs coming.
Jazmee, I couldn't agree more. It's also nice to get back.

Part of the cardiac rehabilitation sessions I went to was an hour of exercise. The man who runs them also runs exercise sessions privately, and I picked up where I left off this afternoon. I was OK and enjoyed it, but it was horribly quiet. Before, there were a few cardiac nurses he could tease (they teased back), and the patients were all chatty and cheerful, but this time it was just him and customers/patients. He went round and had a bit of a chat with all of them. Otherwise there would have been silence.
He told me that three times as many people come to the second sessions as to the first, and it was mad and noisy, so I went to the earlier one. One of the people who came in when we'd finished is a man I've known for about ten years, and I got a cuddle. (Shhh - his wife was at cello practice.) I'm going to try the second session next week. Nothing to do with nice cuddly men and everything to do with a bit of life. I think I'd rather have a noisy madhouse - it's only an hour - than deathly quiet.
Afterwards I treated myself to a sprig of white freesias and a sprig of purple ones, and a couple of smelly candles.

Recently there have been times when I've had to spend two or three seconds trying to think of a word. I told my surgeon that I was on Furosemide and Spironolactone, but couldn't remember the word diuretics. Sprog tells me that he and his gf have both noticed me forgetting information or conversations. (Really?) Exercise Man said it's a very common result of the "procedures" I've had, and it usually gets back to normal after 12-14 months.

My GP said exactly the same thing. I'm pleased, and relieved.

Lesley, didn't the Velveteen Rabbit become real only when it became loved? That's what I meant: I was feeling "non-real" as over against your home visitors. (And I know you were kidding.) :)

Lochalsh, I haven't read the story properly but the Wiki article says that toys become real when they're loved, and that the VR sheds a tear, which is when the Nursery Magic Fairy comes and makes him a real rabbit.
I'm glad you meant the "loved" bit and not the "tear" bit.

I did some research on my own--it's been years since I read the book to my daughter--and I found out the author, Margery Williams, was born in London--wherever that is .... :P

Lesley, about not remembering the word. I had the same thing and as someone who had always been referred to as the walking dictionary it was a major shock. It's been ten years and I still occasionally do the "what's the word?" thing when it's a word that I've used a thousand times before, but it is a rare thing now. I don't stress about it anymore either. Just grateful to actually be here.
