I'm holding my breath! Please not four or five unruly children, with a barking dog for each...Wait, no children, no pets. That's the rule. :) Good news, I hope.

It would be good if they said no noisy dogs. The plumber and his wife had a dog. They shared a bottle of red with their evening meal, and they shared their chocolates with the dog (RIP).
***************************
The couple with the three noisy children had a dog, and she was bored witless. All she did was mooch round the house and sit on the front path. If someone, anyone, walked past, she would bark her head off. If they had a dog, she would go mad barking. She frightened the life out of new neighbours on the other side, by rearing up at the fence. She was a big dog!
I once asked the three noisy children and their visiting cousins to stop playing with a bat and ball against the side of the house. I wouldn't have cared, but it was a quarter to midnight. They didn't argue. Their shoulders drooped and they filed indoors. Where were the adults? I have no idea!
***************************
The people on the other side, where the barbecue-loving scum are now, had two well-neglected German Shepherds. I have written about these at great length, and was delighted beyond words when they'd gone.
***************************
The newest people are a young couple with a two-year-old daughter. They'd better not get a dog! |

Then again, not all dogs are bad (it's the owners who don't know how to train their animals that's the problem)

My soap opera neighbours (the ones with the graffiti and the windows and the cars and the ah, volatile love lives) moved out over the weekend. So far no sign of the new people at all... I just pray they will only ah "entertain horizontally" each other and keep out of my way. Oh and PLEASE let them NOT be Rihanna fans, I cannot bear to listen to her song full blast at one am ever again!

I sometimes wonder how these "interesting" neighbors would appreciate living next to someone who is just like them.
Neighbors have referred to us as "quiet" and "neat" and begged us to never move.
Go figure.

Some people just don't know the meaning of respect (or, more likely, they do but don't give a fat rat!)

Who's blaming the dogs?
The dog that belonged to the couple with the three noisy children barked because he was completely ignored, except when the - er - lady of the house shouted at him to get out of the way of the vacuum cleaner.
The dogs on the other side were male German Shepherds, unrelated, unneutered, untrained, undisciplined; and they never left the back garden, except once when the bigger one got over their apology for a fence, a bit of green chicken wire as I remember, and chased a very small Jonathan round the garden. Her next door smiled broadly and said he wouldn't hurt a pussycat. Jonathan was not amused or reassured, and refused to go in the back garden till they put up a six-foot fence.
The dogs started fighting, so one had to go. They were really only status symbols for him next door, and the dog warden tried for a long time to persuade him to re-home the remaining one.
"Oh no, I could never let him go."
Big dogs need a lot of looking after.
"I know how to look after my dog."
He's upset when you're not there, he howls, and he's upsetting the neighbours.
"That's their problem."
He has got out more than once, and might get out again and attack someone.
"No, he would never do that."
He might get out and cause an accident, and be injured.
"I don't think that's very likely. I am determined to keep him. I love my dog more than life itself - I could never let him go."
If he escaped and caused an accident resulting in injury or damage, you would be liable for costs.
"Take him! Where do I sign?"

Rowena, I wish you more peace than you know what to do with.
I've only ever heard once song by Rihanna, umberellarellarellarella... and I've never managed to tolerate more than twenty seconds of it.

I'm afraid too many of them would be only too happy to have neighbours like them. The couple with the three noisy children came from a fairly boisterous area, where children as young as three and four ran round knocking on doors and asking if the three/four-year-old resident could come out to play. Soon after they moved in, I asked her if she was happy with the move, she said "Nahhh, it's too noisy," and the family made more noise than everyone else in earshot put together.
Why move into a quiet area and grumble that it's too quiet? {rhetorical question}

I'm sure most people understand the meaning of respect, but not as it applies to other people. Too many people now expect - demand - respect, but are incapable of understanding that it works both ways. :( |

Thank you all. :)
Sorry if you were worried. One of my plugs worked its way loose and eventually fell out. :(
My cousin was here from Monday lunchtime till this morning. I didn't look while he was here. He needs (= is desperate for) company, so I just concentrated on him. He's had a very raw deal, so it was hard work, but he went away happy, and I am exhausted. Nothing a good night's sleep won't cure! |

Thanks you lot. Nice to be back - and to have a change of conversation.
House guests make lots of laundry. I'll get that out of the way and then I shall feel like me again. Yippee. :) |
