We have our doubts!
We know they are really, it's just the media who pretend they're not: poking their paparazzi noses into everything when someone new is on the rise, and pointing out every physical imperfection when their star is waning.
If you have the misfortune to stumble upon a "celebrity" website, you will see any number of links inviting you to
- decide if someone famous is pregnant:
- decide if someone famous has recently had plastic surgery, come out of rehab, or gained three ounces:
- look and laugh at someone famous who has stepped out to go shopping, with scruffy clothes, unwashed hair and no make-up:
- identify the mystery "hunk" (male) or "blonde" (female) recently spotted out with a famous person...
Weren't we all taught not to make personal remarks?
"Mummy, why is that person so fat? Ouch, mummy, what did you do that for? That hurt! Mummy, look, over there, that man is so fat he needs two seats on the bus! But mummy, it's not our stop yet!"
And yet all sorts of people, from Anne Robinson to cheap hacks, make a living from insults. Not nice; not friendly.
Off soapbox now. |

I said to my friend yesterday when she said it first, we both remember exactly when our parents/childminders taught us certain rules like that, and clearly many people both never have, and consider it too late to learn it now. Very sad.
One think I've always wondered is if there are any celebrities here. I do know they read here as I put questions in Ask on Paul Daniels and Mungo Jerry and had them answered by their managers. I wonder if they check regularly so they can keep up with us. I also wonder if the 'managers' are actually them in person, but can imagine the flak if we knew some name on a quiz score was Paul Daniels, or maybe even Daniel Radcliffe. I don't blame them as it would simply overtake the site and pee off the staff as well, but a quiet word to the few wouldn't hurt. For all we know you're covering an alter ego Gary- celebrity stories not by coincidence? ;)

A few years ago, I posted in the Bedfordshire board about the death of a local composer, and that attracted the attention of his lady friend, who registered with FT and added to the thread.
Last year, I posted in the History board about the people who discovered a copy of the 1935 Nuremberg Laws signed by Adolf Hitler. Betsy Frahm, Martin Dannenberg's daughter, joined the site and joined in the thread. (I'm not often starstruck, but I was then!)
So yes, I'm sure there are search engines continually polling for mentions of interested parties. I've seen these two, but there must be too many to count. |

| Going back to the rules of behaviour in polite society, do you remember when adults used to tell children to keep their voices down in public? Ha! |

Oh, gosh, now I feel really awful, really rude. I won't be able to live with myself for the rest of the day. Truly.

Yesterday at the cardiac exercise session, instead of doing "press-ups" against the wall, I joined a couple of men who repair to the kitchen at the end of the hall, and do plank-style press-ups with their hands on the leading edge of the worktops.
It seemed surprisingly easy. I kept up with the men and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. What an easy way to get biceps.
Today my arms started hurting. :( That'll teach me to be smug... and to experiment with men on kitchen worktops. |

"you never know if not answering someone quickly enough will upset them."
If it upsets anyone, maybe he or she isn't worth it (oh, sorry, does that sound rude? [I'm really not sorry {we have lives too, and if those lives happen to include...}])
Not everyone has the same routine day after day, or week after week

Speaking of "keep your voice down" a kid in the hospital earlier thought it was OK to start yelling around
I think the parents did do something to quiet the kid, and Mom (who was next to me [I was in a weelchair, waiting for them to call me back to x-ray]) said, "Wow!"

"Not everyone has the same routine day after day, or week after week"
I understood all the words in that sentence, except routine. I never did get what that was about.
When I was in the maternity ward with my own brand-new sprog, one of the youngest women had a visit from a friend with two little ones of her own. Both full of energy with fully-developed voices, running up and down yelling.
When you're getting a couple of hours sleep a day, it's hard to take, their mother didn't seem to care, and staff didn't seem to notice. The seem to respect everyone's rights except the patients'. I hope things have changed! |

Can't say I understand "routine" myself (I used the word loosely, as most people seem to think they have a set schedule for each day, whether it's written down or not [to me, the only thing "routine" was when I had almost the same schedule each day, or each week, but then it was a routine set forth by Mom and not me, and I don't think she gets the word either {you can't use the words "routine" and "spontaneous" in the same sentance and have it make sense, and both of us are poster children for spontaneity}])

I have a rigid routine. I wash when wash basket of clothes is attenpting to smother the bathroom, make meals when I'm hungry and Regularly sweep the room with a glance..... :)
As for other people's 'darlings' - my hand itches constantly these days. Not to smack the offspring but the parent/s sitting smiling benevolently while they run amok.
Whatever happened to manners? Have they becaome passe or illegal while we weren't looking? :(
My Two Darlings and their associated pals can be interesting at times but always rise to the mark when out or 'with company'.
Sleeping in hospital with a newborn Lesley?
What ever for? :$
I don't think I've Ever slept in hospital without anaesthetic!

Lesley...........Quote, "Today my arms started hurting. :( That'll teach me to be smug... and to experiment with men on kitchen worktops", Unquote,......................Cor! Really shouldn't do things like that Lesley, but it does conjure up hilarious images! rofl
It's all right for our lady contributors to this Blog, who may courtesy to you........I'd respond with an elegant? bow, were it not for the fact it would probably take at least 30 minutes to straighten back up again!
Would a smart salute, do instead?
Which reminds me of watching the Cenotaph Ceremony on TV, had I given a salute as sloppy as that performed by most of the uniformed Royal family, I would have been sent off to circumnavigate the parade ground at a gallop. However, I was not an Admiral, neither was/am I Royalty.........!
Routine.........I am a creature of routine........I became accustomed in my Navy life to having a set routine for just about every conceivable situation.........I still have as old habits (as the Abbot said to the Monk) die hard.
