I'm so pleased your health's now good enough to really get out and about-the only downside is we don't see you around here so often!

Thanks, you two!
Reason I'm spending less time here is more to do with the presence of the beloved child. His and his girlfriend's efforts have converted this house from one that Kim and Aggie would run out of screaming, to one that Kim and Aggie would be able to walk round, sobbing. Lots of work! |

Went to see Bedfordshire Youth Orchestra yesterday evening. The county youth music system has been going from strength to strength over the last 30 or 40 years, and the local council thought it could save money by cutting all funding to the music service. The service has been saved, perhaps because of the massed anger of musicians, parents and tutors, telling them that the financial costs of the service are repaid tenfold: but with reduced funding - which is better than no funding at all. The corn exchange was packed and the concert was a joy.

Sometimes whole families come to see a family member playing, and sometimes that includes children who are thought to be too young to concentrate, or are simply not interested. I have seen young audience members reading a book.
Yesterday, I heard a noise behind me, that sounded like the rustle of a programme, or sweet wrappers, but it went on too long to be either of those. I turned round and saw that the small boy behind me was playing a hand-held computer game.
I really wanted to take it off him and (ahem) dispose of it on his behalf, but that would have made too much noise. One of the violinists said she would have grabbed it and stamped on it. Ooh tempting.
Is there a polite solution?

And what do you say to a step-child who asks you:
"That money you're leaving me in your will - can I have it now?" |

| Sssshhhhh - don't tell anyone, but you're both right. That's exactly what he did. He has very little of anything, but the step-child won't see a penny of it. Good for him! |

I presume it wasn't a particularly good relationship?

| It had potential for a while, but does rather seem to have disintegrated recently! Now it's probably safe to call it non-existent. Her loss, I think. |

Th Bedforshire Youth Orchestra performance sounds like a night well spent.
What music did these young people play?

Very! :) They started off with the overture from Egmont, went on to play Variations on a Theme of Haydn (the theme's the St Anthony Chorale) by Brahms, and finished with Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony.
The conductor is a devoted genius, and has been a great mentor to streams of young players for about forty years. Last night he got the longest, noisiest ovation I've ever heard. This may have been because the orchestra survived and nearly didn't, or because he broke his toe in a car accident and walked onto the stage on crutches. Probably both. |

Good grief Lesley hope the step child does not react like my brother, my mum had a will done many years ago when she was helped out of a financial problem basically leaving everything to our sister who helped her out of the situation.
She was going top leave 60% of her estate to my sister and then 20% to me and 20% to my brother, i was told of this when it happened, my brother was not as we all knew how he would react. Low and behold 2 years ago him and his wife were pumping continually for info not asking my mum direct but posing questions to my sister and bro in law, when they had enough she told him he did not like the answer, hence he has not spoken to my mum and sister in over 2 years.
Money cvauses no end of problems in families at time especially when they are like my brother lives in a 90K house with a 120 k mortage on it struggles to live both him and his wife working to make ends meet.
Me am happy that my mum is sorted and though i am liable to see nothing from her estate when she dies, i do not give a damn, long as my mum is ok.

I can't imagine the conductor letting a little thing like a broken toe stop him appearing. Did your children's schools have orchestras and bands?
The will history of our family is too complicated and unpleasant to go into here, but the step-child has been opening a big, unkind mouth much too often recently, and he's had enough. If she outlives him, which is likely, she will find a letter his solicitor is helping him to write, telling her why she's been disinherited. I wouldn't want to be in the same room when she read it. |

| He's very angry and upset, and I can understand why. He's already given her a great deal more than he needed to, and now she can go boil her head. :) |
