Thanks, David - saved me a letter!
That's what was suggested to me, a leak, but it was never followed up. One result of coeliac disease is that gluten destroys the villi in the small intestine, and prevents the absorption of nutrients like iron, calcium, and I believe even protein. Oedema can be a sign of protein deficiency, like when starving children get huge swollen bellies.
You're absolutely right about missing the blindingly bleeding obvious, like when I got swollen ankles and he said I had heart failure and sent me off to a cardiologist. There have been lots of clues, but I guess it takes someone who cares more about his patients than about his ego to bother to put them all together. Failing that, a 21yo engineering student.
You will get your Ovaltine - I can't drink it. :(
It's only in the last four or five years that I've slowed right down, and in the last year that I've been wiped out. I'd like nothing better than be as active as I used to be - but then, wouldn't we all? |

Sorry to hear of your unavoidable 'exile', Lesley. :(
I understand what you mean - it's one thing to feel flat and miserable at home but you can't stop compensating if you're at someone else's house - even a brother. It just seems to happen, doesn't it?
Hope you manage to rest.
21 year old engineers apparently have sense and can look outside squares.....
Some Where there is a GP with similar qualities - who can have you running around in no time! :)
I would imagine you're my age or younger and you're not allowed to fall apart. I won't allow it! ;)

Please let this be the right place! I just had a text from Lesley and she asked me to post here (well I *think* she meant here, I can't think where else it could be) - she has been admitted to hospital after phoning for an ambulance when her breathing and lack of sleep got worse. I don't know anymore than that right now but will update as and when I get some news.

I don't post here often (well hardly ever actually!), but I have been following this and hoping that Lesley would be able to find a helpful doctor. Please pass on my best wishes if you're in touch with her again. Maybe the hospital will be able to find out what needs doing to make her well again.

Lesley, I am worried for you, but I am so glad you went in the hospital. I hope they get to the bottom of what is causing your illness. I will be thinking of you and hoping that everything goes well so you can get back to enjoying the world again. Get well!

Update from this morning - Lesley is in the coronary care unit, having finally been found a bed at 4am this morning. The food is lousy and the tea is worse (I took complaint as a good sign since it means she's feeling up to caring about the quiality of it :-D) and she thanks everyone for the good wishes I passed on. (And it just occurred to me I have no idea which hospital it is lol, I must ask!)

Rowena, thank you for the update. I'd been really concerned about Lesley for hours and hours.
If it's convenient, please send a Lochalsh hug to her? Oh, and here's one for you, since you're being such a dear:

Oh my gosh. Rowena, please add me to the list in wishing Lesley well. If only the doctors could get some kind of inkling as to what is causing her ailments. At least in the hospital they can monitor her, which is much safer than if something were to happen at home. (((((hugs))))) to Lesley, please get better soon!

From what i ahve heard from Lesley half the problem is a useless Doctor she has, They want the money but do not do best for patients at times, i had one diagnose a sprained ankle when in fact i had damaged my achilles tendon which was diagnosed by a diffrent doctor in the practice.
I to hope lesley is put right and half of what she has been told is wrong and the right stuff is found out and corrected.

Thank you Rowena, and hugs for being in touch.
It's nice to know there is someone round the corner who can keep a check on how Lesley is.
I agree - complaints are good! :)
Maybe Now some one will get the problem assessed properly and have Lesley back on the Happy Healthy Path very soon.

Time to update, Lesley has been diagnosed with heart failure (ie weakness, it does still work) and is having the fluid drained which should cause a great improvement. I'll return if I learn more ahead.

Thank you David. I had suspected as much, but she said her heart doctor told her it was fine and released her a while back.

Considering the stress she's been having due to lack of sleep etc, etc, honeybee it isn't surprising, though very worrying.
