Relax, Ray, it was while I was searching for "I'm a g-nu" that I spotted The Gasman Cometh and thought oh yes, Ray likes that.
Epping was, indeed, countryside, not an urban sprawl surrounding a Central Line tube station. Lots of tomato farms, and c(h)amomile growing everywhere. Nice smells, all gone now. |

Glad you didn't find anything.
Just been to vote "no" to the proposed new Tesco, planned in an empty pub about three quarters of a mile away. Next thing will be one in the shopping parade half a mile away. Tesco is spreading like a cancer all over these little shopping parades, and killing all the independent shops nearby. They bought three consecutive "units" in the town centre and that's opening on Monday. They claim to increase consumer choice. Yes, to shop in Tesco, or not to shop in Tesco, the way they're going.
I wanted to say what effect this will have on Bedford, but I ended up calling it Besco. I hope that's a slip of the tongue, neither Freudian nor unwittingly prescient. |

All sounds a little too fishy, Lesley. But you know what Tesco are like, with all their sweet sounding platitudes about doing good, caring etc. Phoney guff, all of it. It's a shame about your High Street.

| It certainly is, Trojan. There are two real edge-of-town Tesco supermarkets, and about to be the three-shop sprawl at a crossroads just outside the covered shopping centre. The rest, like the "Express" in the High Street, are little shops like metastases dotted all over, and I don't suppose it'll be long before the dots start joining up and asphyxiating Bedford shops. There are three markets a week, and they may survive. We can hope! |

Jonathan's on his way and I have lots to do so I may not be on much in the next day or so.
If I'm not, this is as good as time as any to wish you all a peaceful weekend and as good a Yom Kippur as you can manage.
Happy Friday! |

It seems that I shall once again be sharing a confined space - someone else's car - with The VEGETARIAN! Jonathan and I will sit in the back. I am grateful for the lift but sitting next to The VEGETARIAN! is too much.
If she starts her nonsense again, i can either ignore her, or make a deal with her: "You don't tell me how to run my life, and I won't end yours." For the sake of peace, out of consideration for the driver, I shall probably ignore her - it's usually the best way to treat people like these - but she'd better not start any of her nonsense when it's just her and me because she will be very sorry indeed. |
