Whilst I have not had the "pleasure" of driving in either Luton or Bedford since the 1990's - it does sound as if that they have not altered much!
Bedford was always a $%$£$ to drive in, and likewise Luton.
In fairness though, how many towns or cities ARE "driver friendly"?
Good news about your cardiac business Lesley, you now have me beat - I have to attend bi-annual cardiac check ups!
If Merv really HAS "gone on his way rejoicing" Lesley, you will be heaving a sigh of relief..........you will probably miss him you know........the same as you miss having toothache, or miss having a cold!
However, be careful, because just when you think it is safe to come out..............!
Oh dear, this day and age perhaps I should amend, "come out" to read "venture out" as the former has an unfortunate alternative meaning to what I intended to convey!

C30 - thanks for the advisory about 'come out' versus 'venture out'. The next time I am cooking for a large group and something remains in the bottom of a pan, I will urge it to venture out (and entertain my friends in the process).
Great idea!

Good news about how well your ticker is doing, Lesley :))
I agree with C30, just when you think it's safe, he'll reappear! Get the footman on to him.

Thank you everyone!
David, yes I am delighted, and yes, driving in and around Luton is not a pleasure!
Sorry, Ray. Well, only a bit sorry. I am always happy to reduce the frequency of hospital visits, and to reduce medication.
"Not having a car, or a ride, can really be a bother. Some just don't understand."
Oh I do. I don't want to rise to the bait and be forced to start justifying myself, but I understand very well indeed. And thank Tiepolo for making the point that this is indeed my blog, where all contributors are endlessly welcome provided that they:
1. stay as upbeat as they can - it's possible to make negative observations without depressing everyone else; and
2. don't try to start fights with other contributors.
Not much to ask, I think.
When Merv reappears, which he is bound to do, when he's thought of a new pretext to call and I'm least expecting it, I shall surprise him.

PS Judy, I didn't actually use the word onanist - that's the nanny-friendly alternative. *naughty* |

Do you know, as I read these various posts something quite strange pops into my mind. It's almost as though there is some kind of reincarnation of a former poster, long gone now and not lamented.
On that theme, does any one know what happened to Deunan?

Lochalsh is missing as well. Any clues to her location?

Now tiepolo is no longer active.
Lesley, it's good your health is improving. Now if you remain Merv-less, stress will become a thing of the past.
Did you get Jonathan an iron of his own and how is the light working?

I am so glad you had a good report. I have to go see my doctor in six months and hope to have good news then.

Thank you honeybee. I had no idea. But why the change? It is so puzzling as to why folk do such things. Sneaking around like that. Odd! Wouldn't you say? :)

Lochalsh, Oatmeal and Tiepolo gone? I'm a reader rather than a contributor, but an admirer of the erudite straight talker who isn't spiteful. I hope there's a resurrection.

Tiepolo I can explain the absence of - I had a very curt PM and I was led to believe that exception was taken to my last sentence of Post 3841............why, I have no idea!

I have been told short and sweet that we are not allowed to talk about former players.

Ray, it wasn't just you. In fact, I don't think it was you at all.
Daymare #3846, 3848, 3849: stop these digs now please. You are on very thin ice. What's that old cliché about people in glass houses not throwing stones?
Baldricksmum, I am with you completely, especially on the absence of malice.
Thank you, Judy. Good luck in six months! |

NFL? NHL? NBL? Barcelona? Real Madrid? Name them, name them all and to hell with protocol.
Poor Lesley's blog is beginning to resemble an explodng hen house. Where is everyones sense of humour? Why take all this stuff so seriously. Wounded egos, folk trumping off the site in a huff, and then returning under different names. Although I must admit, it's a shame about the latest departure. Far more erudite and entertaining than most. :(
